MD-10 At LGA?

Wed Jun 06, 2012 9:54 pm

I was on the planefinder app and I noticed an Omni Air MD-10, n810ax, on finals for runway 22 at LaGuardia and thought it was w mistake. But I checked a minute or so later and saw it turned off the runway and taxiing. Any idea why it's there?

I thought Omni had parked all of the DC-10s but I suppose one or two might be still kicking around. In any case, I've seen military charters from North American at LGA and the airport can, and formerly did, support the DC-10, 767, and L-1011. I remember very well the EA, DL, and TW wide bodies that used to operate there.

It just isn't very common to see wide bodies there because domestic wide body use is now confined to a small number of routes, most of them originating in California - too far for LGA's perimeter rule. The few domestic wide body services that arrive in NYC arrive at EWR and JFK for that reason.

Not sure if it was a mistake, either way, LGA can definetly host the aircaft...... Remember way back when LGA used to host TWA's L-1011, AA DC-10's and Delta's 767 and L-1011's...... the good old days.

According to Airfleets.net, the a/c in question (which is not an MD-10) is now with Project Orbis.

OAI retired the last of their DC-10s in February of 2012. Looking at FlightAware, I don't see any DC-10 having arrived at LGA in the last few hours.

Anyone know if this 'new' plane a replacement for the ex-FedEx bird, or an addition to their capabilities?

Omni has been operating for NK to FLL. I saw a 757 there the other day and even posted here to confirm why it was at LGA. Perhaps it's an a/c listing error?
I want to live in an old and converted 727...

I have also seen NAO 752s operating NK flights. I saw one at my gate on Christmas Eve of 2010 going to FLL because they had hit the a321 with an airstair truck the night before in FLL.

I was flying out of LGA the other day and was pissed because the flight at the gate before and after me was the 752 and I missed them both!

I guess it was a listing error. I had my suspicions all along because about five minutes after I saw it, it showed an unknown type of aircraft with the registration N81AX on finals for the same runway.

In addition to Delta's 767's and L1011's, don't forget to add Delta's DC-10's.

Hard to believe ROC used to have LGA flights with AA -10-10's .

Wouldn't be the first time Flightaware made a mistake

They keep showing UA 732s on there. They show AFR 77W as a 772 at MCO, American brought a 767-200 to MCO the other day but Flightaware shows it as a 757.
