Lifestyle Living - 727 My Sweet New Home

Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:39 am

Hi all!!

I came over a interesting article today about a guy named Bruce Campbell that converted a old B727-200 to his new home in the forrest.

Article - sorry in German

Translation from German:

Quote:
Bruce Campbell leads the journalists of the news transmitter "CNN" in the middle of a forest piece. He wants to show them his new home. The way is worthwhile, because Campbells freshly furnished home is no usual wooden hut. The man from Oregon lives in a desolate Boeing 727-200.

Proudly points Campbell one of three toilets which he has brought in the old machine of the Olympic to airways again to the running. The fact that she is small, does not disturb him: «I am also small», he says. In the cabin he has most seats herausmontiert, now for it his sofa and an easy shower stand there. «A lot of intimacy does not offer this shower, but if one lives alone in the middle of the wood, this is not the main problem», explains Campbell further.

He already has the most necessary: Stream and an iPod with his favorite music. And Campbell already knows where he best stays: in the cockpit. However, even if he spends many hours at his new home, Campbell is glad about the summer: «The wings offer a pleasant shade.»

Would that be a choice of your's? If yes then something else then a B722? What you think about it?

As much as I love the B-727, I think I would like a bigger Boeing, maybe a B-707, B-757, or B-767-300.

I believe that the US major airlines are now starting to phase out their 757s (I know American is), so I wouldn't be surprised if in years from now we hear of a guy buying a used 757 and transform it into his new home. I don't love it as much as I love the 727, but it would still be a cool thing to do.
Thanks for the links, I enjoyed watching the video.

It would, except that 727s and narrow-bodied aircraft in general aren't even as wide inside as the average house trailer.

A DC-10 or an L-1011 would probably make a much more livable home long term. However, getting a retired DC-10 or L-1011 to one's property could prove to be a real challenge unless one happened to live in the desert near an aircraft boneyard.

Due to the T-tail design, the overall length of the 727-200 is actually 3 inches longer than the longest 707s (the -320/420). However the 707-320/420 fuselage is about 9 feet longer than the 722.

747-300! Master bedroom would be upstairs! Personal home office in the nose, then lay out the rest according to your desires. I think I'd put the dining room between the office and the rest of the place; kind of a neutral zone where it'd be a bit quiet. Just my two cents worth!
