I know AA flew 74's from Dallas Love to NYC, presumably JFK, in the early 70's, so those were probably 100s.

When BN went under AA picked up their DFW-HNL route, and they used 74s, but I don't know which version. Could have used 100s on early DFW-LGW runs, and JFK-LAX/SFO routes also.

That would be the 747SP however for the DFW-NRT flights.

Back around 1980 or '81 the LAX-JFK nonstops were all 747s and AA trumpeted the fact in their ads, the DC10 still being under a cloud at that time.

I believe that the original 747-123s were used on transcontinental services: JFK-LAX, JFK-SFO, ORD-LAX, ORD-SFO and maybe BOS-LAX. I remember flying one from SFO to JFK on the "red-eye" service back in the 70s when i was a young teenager. Remember, back then Dallas was not the super-hub that it is today for AA. The 747SP, which came later and were purchased from TWA, flew mainly the DFW-NRT route, and before retirement, also flew a some transatlantic services, mainly JFK-LHR and JFK-BRU.

AA operated the 747 out of DFW for international flights in the 80's(LGW,NRT) keep in mind that it was when DFW opened when AA moved it's hqtr's to dallas. It had a small hub at love though.

Hey,
I had the opprotunity to fly on one AA's B747-123's from LAX-HNL back in the early eighties.
It was the only time I got sick on a plane. I had flown from YYT-YYZ-LAX and then was enroute to HNL. It was a very long day for a little kid!!
I made the return trip (HNL-SFO) on one of AA's DC-10's.

They were also used on the JFK-SJU routes until the DC-10s came on line.

Just for the record...All AA flights transferred to DFW when it opened in 1974. I beleive I read that all operators then at DAL had to move to DFW. The Wright Amendment was then concocted to"protect" the investment at DFW. It has been only recently that AA went back to Love after the Wright Amendment was finally overturned.

On the subject, 747-123's yes, most were used transcon, hawaii, and San Juan seervices to JFK. They were traded to PAN AM in the early 80's after the PA/NA merger for the DC-10's of the old NA.(miss those sun kings!)The DFW-NRT was flown with 747SP's acquired from TWA and were rebuilt in Japan for AA prior to entering service on that route.
