G-BYGF has Queens Diamond Jubilee logo by the cockpit.

G-EUPA is now a 'Dove'

G-EUOD repainted and has the crest next to the titles.

They spend all that money on a silly (and rather ugly) repaint to mark the Olympics (which are only 2 weeks) when they could have spent that money on a nice retro repaint that would last for many years.

It would be nice to see a 747 in BOAC colours again or the A320 in BEA colours. I know they were merged together but they are still in the genetics of BA.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Or they could have spent the money on a new or revised livery..

I don't think the current BA livery needs updating yet.... Incidentally G-DBCH lacks the crest.

I agree. At least the Air Canada 777 that was painted for the Vancouver Winter Olympics looked great.

I agree; in the current colour contrast (silver/grey on white) it would probably have been better on the nose/under the cockpit. At least then it would be more visible from the terminal.... It gets a bit 'lost' in its current location.

Thanks for the update.

That leaves just one aircraft in the whole of BA's fleet, 319 G-EUOE, flying in the original Union Flag livery with a larger area of white at the top of its tai.

On a slightly related topic, BA appear to have 52 active 747-400s. How many are Hi J? What is the split?

Why hasn't EUOE been repainted since it was delivered in 2001 ? Other Airbuses have been done once or even twice in that time.

Quoting BA777 (Reply 23):
BA appear to have 52 active 747-400s. How many are Hi J?

Hi J aircraft:
All G-BYGA to G-BYGG - 7 aircraft
G-CIVF, CIVG, CIVH, CIVI, CIVM, CIVO, CIVR,CIVS, CIVV, CIVW, CIVX, CIVZ - 12 aircraft
G-BNLE, BNLK, BNLN, BNLO, BNLP, BNLT - 6 aircraft

Making a total of 25. I don't think many, if any, of the Hi-J have been taken out of service/scrapped, so pretty close to 50:50 now whereas 4 years ago the Mid-J were in the majority.

Not an accident either that the Hi-J are the newer aircraft - CIVF was delivered March 1995 and CIVM has just turned 15. Put another way, these birds will be flying for a reasonably long time yet. So I don't necessarily buy a significant A380 follow on order is imminent since the Mid J aircraft which will need replacing first are very well matched in terms of capacity by the B77W (4 more J, more W (can't remember how many) and fewer Y, same freight).

The B777/A350 order however - that could be huge........
A306, A318, A319, A320, A321, A332, A333, A343, A346, A388, B722, B732, B733, B734, B735, B73G, B738, B742, B744, B752, B753, B762, B763, B764, B772, B773, B77W, B787-8, BAe-146, Cessna Something, DC-10, E175, E195, ERJ145, MD-11, MD-80, PA Something

G-EUOE is the last one to be repainted. Which aircraft have been repainted twice aside from special liveries like Olympic Flame and Dove from Above aircraft? The penultimate one in it's original colours has just bren completed. So near a uniform fleet, and then what with the Olympics and bmi so far!

G-CIVY is also Hi-J. So half of the 747's are Hi-J and half are Mid-J.

Quoting skipness1E (Reply 26):
Which aircraft have been repainted twice aside from special liveries like Olympic Flame and Dove from Above aircraft?

I have tried to determine when any BA aircraft is repainted by looking for minor changes. These include the positioning of the titles and 'Speedmarque' (which, for example are further forward on the left side on recently repainted 319 G-EUOF), the abbreviated tail registration (two letters on all Airbus aircraft on delivery, three letters on (all?) repainted aircraft since around 2005) and the small red alignment markers below the cabin doors where an additional marker immediately below the door is present on recently repainted aircraft but not on any when delivered.

The heraldic crest, also on 'OF, has become a new marker as it does not seem to be a decal but appears to be painted, just as the Union Flag tail with a large white area at the top on all 319s on delivery became a marker when replaced by the current version. Also the 'Airbus' and 'United Kingdom' titles and the 'Chatham Historic Dockyard' names on early 319s were removed when those aircraft were repainted so they also were markers..

From these factors I believe the following statements are probably true:

1. Only one 319 has not been repainted (G-EUOE)
2. Only three 319s have been repainted more than once. G-EUPA was first repainted in July 2005 and then again (in the 'Dove' livery) in May this year. 'PD was first repainted in August 2007 and then again (in the 'Dove' livery) this month. 'PC was first repainted in August 2005 and then again (in the Olympic 'Firefly' livery) in May this year. (Note that these three aircraft are the oldest, fourth oldest and third oldest Airbus aircraft in today's BA fleet.)
3. A few 320s have been repainted. They include the second oldest, G-EUUB but apparently not the oldest, 'UA. The third oldest, 'UC may have been repainted in late 2010. The next oldest ('UD) was probably repainted just over 12 months ago.
4. No 320 has been repainted more than once (with the earliest repainting only a little more than two years ago).
5. No 321 has been repainted.
6. Special liveried aircraft required repainting anyway either because either they had not been previously repainted (G-EUOH) or because they had been in the BA fleet for at least twelve and a half years and had last been repainted before September 2007 - see (2) above..

The repainted A320s have the last three on the fin as opposed to the last two, repainted G-EUP* A319s also have the last three with the exception of PV (from memory) which had the last three on the nosewheel doors instead! G-EUO* repaints have the last two on the fin. In short, on the Airbus and B744 fleet, there are differences post respray in all cases. The same is true on the B777 fleet with tail last two/three but not on the B763 for some reason.

But NLE is BAs oldest AC and will soon be 23. It's just been through another heavy check too so I doubt it's going anywhere soon.

The reg font is slightly different newly repainted 319/320s and 747s. Also, the dark shading on the flag seems less intense now.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the Olympic paintscheme done with vinyl decals? This makes it easier (and significantly cheaper) than a full repaint of a rather temporary theme.

Anyways for me, I'd love to see a modernization of the Landor tail, but it certainly is great to at least see the crest back!

Landor seems much popular abroad, the current update of the 1974 scheme is much more British. Landor is very dated, like shoulder pads and Sony Walkmans. Try shooting it in anything less than sunshine!

She last flew on 16 June (BD093, BHD-LHR). So she has been out of service for two weeks.

Repainting in Union Flag livery is usually takes around a week. For example G-EUOD operated OSL-LHR on 24 May. She was repainted in an identical scheme to that reported for 'CE and re-entered service six days later 30 May (LHR-ZRH, BA716).

As 'CE was ferried to Lufthansa Technik at SOF for maintenance on 24 May (BD9512) and did not return until 11 June (BD9512), it looks certain that the extra week spent on the ground at LHR was not for routine maintenance.

It is therefore likely that while it has been out of service at LHR 'CE has also had its cabin refurbished to BA's specification. I guess this is why it was in the old Concorde hangar.

In addition, G-EUOE is also resprayed with standard new tail colours, last two on fin and crest on fuselage. This was the last A319 in delivery livery, seen towing from the Bealine Base on Friday evening. Forgot BA have two "oscar echo" Airbuses nowadays! Good to see so many clean looking Airbuses.(never Airbii!!!!)
