Iraqi Airways Ops

Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:31 pm

Dear All, looking at the Iraqi Airways website it does show a full flight schedule with destinations within the middle east, obviously, plus Malmo, Sweden & London Gatwick. No dates shown though. Anyone know if they have aircraft/employee's etc ? I guess BGW is up to it as a few carriers already going there.

Any news anyone ? Cheers

The site is OLD as the London Gatwick via Malmo service operated just very few flights however the Kuwaiti authorities secured a High Court order and instructed bailiffs to seize Iraqi aircraft and assets as war reparations .

Bailiffs indeed tried to seize the aircraft at Gatwick however as it was a leased Swedish machine they were unsuccessful.

Iraq immediately suspended the service.

A number of lesser and /or virtual carriers subsequently are/have operated between the UK and Iraqi cities on an ad-hoc basis, either via Greece or Sweden and from both Manchester and Gatwick .

Several of these flights are/have been Home Office related.

Currently a company called Hermes (Related to the French Air Méditerranée) are flying weekly to the northern city of Erbil from Manchester via Gothenburg .

Other cities served have been Sulamaniyah, Basra and Baghdad.

Until the court order is satisfied Iraqi will NOT be seen in the UK or any other country where the bailiffs can serve the said order.

Kuwait-Iraq issue has been resolved, they are setting up a joint airline with 200 million dollars and 300 million more are to be paid to Kuwait towards whatever grudge they held. Iraqi is now free to paint its livery onto its planes and fly anywhere they like.
