Saudi Arabian 747SP At ORD

Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:19 pm

I was driving down I-294 past ORD this afternoon and glanced over at T-5 - I consider myself lucky to have seen an SV 747SP at Terminal 5! Anyone know why it was in town today?

Maybe one of the Royals wanted a Chicago deep dish pizza.

Given what they put into the pizza, would it be Halal?

Could it have been related to this in some way?

Saudi Crown Prince Nayef dies

He died in GVA where he's reportedly been since May 26.

One of the Saudi royal 747SPs was reportedly en route to GVA on Saturday, no doubt to take his body home for burial at Mecca on Sunday.

Found following photo dated May 26, 2012 arriving GVA, likely with him on board.

Honestly, if I were a royal Saudi prince, I'd be more interested in having a lavish, well kept 74L as my personal plane, than even the new 748's, but I am also an A.nutter. Just my bias to the sp's, what incredible machines they were in their heyday. The few examples of the type that are still flying are just spectacular to see, there is something very sexy about that plane.

If this is HZ-AIF I flew in this aircraft from RUH-DHA in the late '80s. Amazed to see some years later that this is now on of the SP's used by the Royal Family. Because King Fahd became very immobile this aircraft was fitted with a lift/elevator which enabled him to leave.

If you're referring to the photo in Reply 7, that's HZ-HM1B which has was built as a VIP aircraft and was never part of the SV passenger fleet.
