How Is The ATR 72-600 Doing?

Fri Jun 15, 2012 1:28 am

Quite a few airlines are now operating this type for a while now, and I'm just wondering how are they liking it? Is the aircraft meeting all performance criteria as stated by ATR? Are flight crews enjoying the new type? How is it maintenance wise? Dispatch reliability? The only airline I've heard having problems with them is BW. Mind you, its all rumours, but I understand baggage capability was a major issue followed by its climb performance. Lastly, I understand the only -600 sim is in TLS. How are airlines like Azul and Trip dealing with that? Probably not a big deal, but France is a long ways away from Brazil.

Lastly, with the WS order out the window, who else do you think will make the next big ATR order?

This is interesting, where did you get this info? I've been trying to find news articles and such related to the -600, but have found very little stuff that's interesting.

I do wish 9W buy some. They're the major ATR operator in India now that IT has taken a hit.
'What's it doing now?'

The problems with BW regarding the ATR were mentioned in the Caribbean aviation forum. Other than the baggage issues, I don't really believe the other issues they are having, like LFT said they were rumours. I remember fellow member BW424 said that they were suddenly performing as promised. I think the ATR problems were more financial than actual performance of the aircraft.

Even the baggage issue seems odd as you can calculate in advance how much baggage the aircraft can take and whether it fits your operation or not. I wouldn't take much as fact with regards to the Caribbean Airlines complaints for their ATR72-600's.

There were quite a few articles in the Trinidad press about it, but most were just speculation as the airline never came out publicly to address it. BW ordered 9 aircraft and has only received 2. The others are still in TLS awaiting delivery. BW, with the help of the Trinidad government is trying to come up with funds to pay for the rest. Speculation is rife that they are trying to back out of the deal with ATR.

Must be true, as I have not heard anything recently.
