Start-up FlyA Seeks A330s

Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:15 pm

Start-up carrier FlyA is in the market for the lease of Airbus A330 aircraft as it aims to launch operations in 2013.

The new carrier, which is led by former Flybaboo founder and chief executive Julian Cook, is seeking two A330-300s under operating lease agreements.

FlyA is currently raising funds and targets the start of operations in 'nine to 12 months time'. It will offer long-haul low-cost services to various points in North America.

Hmm comes immediately to mind, but I keenly await further details.

the link doesn't work for me as non subscriber to Flightglobal... Can you elaborate a bit more? Will they be based in Switzerland?
I had to think about Ajet, the shortlived new name of Helios Airways of Cyprus used to cover up the badwill after the crash.

Not sure what happened to the leases that Virgin had with Ryan (now that Ryan is bankrupt/not paying employees)...but those two aircraft come to mind. I think they were 300s.

VS only leased one to Ryan, and that was only on a short term lease. It was always coming back. If Ryan weren't paying the lease it would be back by now so I guess they must have the means to pay some of their bills.
So long 701, it was nice knowing you.

A quick search provided me with a little bit more information.

FlyA (Geneva Cointrin (GVA)) is planning to launch operations in 2013 with three A330s operating from London and Paris to destinations such as Boston General Edward Lawrence Logan International (BOS), Miami International (MIA), Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International (YUL) and New York. The new carrier is led by former FlyBaboo (F7, Geneva Cointrin (GVA)) founder and CEO Julian Cook who is currently raising funds for the launch of FlyA.

A330s LON - BOS, MIA, YUL and NYC, managed to pick a pretty competitive set of markets to aim at!
Is this LCC long haul? - many on don't believe that is a viable business model. I happen to believe it is a viable business model but on routes such as GLA-BOS using NEO or MAX equipment.
