TK34 IAH-IST 17:50-15:55 77W x347

Are these timings right???
Arrival at 18:05, but departure at 17:50?
Over 24h on the ground?

TK34 IAH-IST 17:50-15:55 77W x347

Of course it must be:

TK33 IST-IAH 13:05-18:05 77W x347
TK34 IAH-IST 19:50-15:55 77W x347

Otherwise it would be a very long turnaround.

Boy that seems like a long way away to plan a flight being 10 months out. Are they hurting for planes that they can't start it sooner or are loads poor in the winter?

I am surprised it is a 77W instead of a 343. Seems like too much capacity IMHO.

I think the potential is there for this route to do well... This flight will offer great connections to all of the oil/gas-rich countries in Central Asia and to Iraq/Kurdistan. However, a 77W is larger than what I would have expected. Still, it's better for many connections than DOH/DXB.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

Isn't TK have trouble financially? This super aggressive expansion seems very risky, no?

Very exciting! These flight timings for TK allow plenty of good connections to/from UA at IAH.

Along with United starting EWR-IST, this points to a closer relationship for the two airlines. But when just I checked various routings for connecting itineraries, UA and TK didn't seem to have any codeshares. To Be Announced?

And I wonder who will cater Turkish at IAH -- LSG or UA's Chelsea?

I think ten months is the furthest out that flights can be loaded into CRSs. So this means TK is offering seats for sale at the earliest possible moment.

They seem quite serious about launching IAH!

These timings of IST-IAH-IST are very good for TK to capture high yielding pax bound to the oil cities of Saudi Arabia, Central Asia and North Africa. In addition, the connections in both directions are very good for KHI, BOM, DAC and DEL hence they will in turn be a big threat to QR more so than TK as QR out of IAH is more reliant on Indian Subcontinent traffic compared to EK.

With QR no longer code sharing with UA, TK's entry into IAH represents a serious threat for them as one can guarantee within 18 months, this new TK IAH flight will be upgraded from 4 weekly to a daily B77W.

Seriously!!!
TK this year already launched Bremen, Leipzig, EDI, Kigali (Rwanda), Aalborg and Billund in Denmark, Yanbu and Taif in Saudi Arabia , Novosibirsk and soon EZE add-on to GRU, Ulan Bator (Mongolia), Osh (Kyrgyzstan).
Today TK announced Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt , Niamey (Niger), Ougadougou (Burkino Faso), , Douala and Yaounde (Cameroon) and Sebha (Libya).
I kinda lost track about all these new destinations, trying to keep up like everyone else. I have a feeling TK is trying to establish itself as one of the airlines that flies to most destinations from a single hub. I think the number is over 200 non-stop destinations out of IST nowadays.
NOTE: TK still growing double digit pax numbers, has 180 jets in its fleet and has orders to receive another 40 or so (321/738/739) within the next 3 year.

True but few things in TK's favor. Oil prices are lower and labor costs are about 30% less than in Europe, recently the government made it illegal for airline employees to strike. IST is very congested but still TK on course to carry 38mil pax this year.
January-May 2012 pax numbers up 18.9%, loads up 5.6% to 74.3% compared to same period last year.
I have no idea how they do this, month after month.

THY utilizes Do&Co exclusively on longhaul services, which includes the onboard chef.

For cities where Do&Co do not have their own kitchens, they will subcontract with an existing vendor that can support the demanding Do&Co standards. (and if not they will use an off airport kitchen like a hotel, or catering service).

TK expects a profit this year:
http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...d-of-jumbo-jets-on-surging-traffic

"The airline also expects to boost profit this year even as a debt crisis in Europe slows global economic growth.

“This year’s going to be much better,” Kotil said, ahead of the International Air Transport Association annual meeting. The carrier made an 18.5 million lira ($10 million) profit last year. Analysts had expected a loss.
"

I'm not sure why the discussion about financial trouble. What is Turkish Airlines bond rating currently? (Thanks in advance, I couldn't find a quick link.)

I for one, cannot wait for this flight. I no longer fly for business, but my next "big" vacation was going to include Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, and possibly Syria. Now I know when I will plan it.

Looking forward to the flight. Welcome to Houston!

Maybe EK and QR will also move to HOU. Won't WN have an extra intl gate when they start their intl service?

Well, the route was announced - to a collective yawn from the Houston newspapers. Nothing in the Chronicle about this yet. What, they don't cover Houston business news?
