For AS Fans: Stunning Air-to-air Video Of AS Jets

Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:40 pm

Was going throughout YouTube, found this video posted by AlaskaAirlinesVideos and had to share it. 12 minutes of nothing but spectacular cinematography of AS flying in the sky.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szjlQIjs0q4&feature=related

I'm a huge sucker for air-to-air videos, and most of them don't last more than about 30 seconds, so I was very delighted upon finding this one.

Stunning indeed! Great air to air footage and great scenery (shame they didn't do this when they still had 727s and MDs though).

That a lot of business for Clay Lacy

AS still has one of the finest livery's in the industry, with the except of the vertical blue/teal painting on the engines.

Wow! This almost brought tears to my eyes...

One of my favorite -- and best looking -- airlines.
Airplanes in flight.
Incredible scenery.
Wonderful background score.

I think the only thing missing is a low fly-over above a pod of orcas in the Puget Sound...

Shame on Alaska for not getting this out there where it could be enjoyed by all!

Thank you, Airport, for sharing this! Fantastic find.

What's wrong with that? I like seeing that out the windows.

IMHO, AS and AA have the two most timeless classic liveries in the industry. They don't need to change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. AS doesn't need a new livery as some have suggested, and AS doesn't need to be absorbed and gutted by DL, AA or US either. Just keep doing what they are doing.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing!

Either way, it is spectacular!

Reminds me a lot of the Pan Am 741 video from the 80s! Similar music and angles! Almost makes flying look elegant  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaStEgS59bw

This video was taken from a DVD that AS put out for their employees. I think it was also available through the Alaska Airlines Company Store. I got a copy of it from the last Seattle Airliners Show/Convention a year or so ago.

Cool, but I'm curious why they would have the first scene in the video be of Honolulu instead of Seattle (the second scene) or somewhere in Alaska?

Great Video. There is just something about the sun reflecting off a jet when it roles into a bank that never gets old.

Thanks for posting

As cool as that would look, I have to imagine that the logistics of coordinating a fly-over of a commercial jet over a pod of orcas would be nothing short of a nightmare.

I hadn't thought of that. Any chance of a new retro jet?

Do tell. I wasn't aware such a thing existed!

Not sure about that one...something like 20% of AS capacity is in the islands, so it's not entirely unjustifiable. Most of the footage seems to have been shot in WA/OR/HI and possibly CA. Lots of shots of Mt. Rainier, Hood, Adams, St. Helens and Crater Lake in there...most of what isn't obviously WA/OR was obviously Hawaii.

The World Airline Historical Society (WAHS) holds these regional Airliner shows with one large show during the summer. This year, the large show is in Memphis. Anyway, Seattle used to have a show, but it hasn't returned for year or two. Otherwise, they have them all over the place, like SFO, LAX, EWR, ORD, DFW, ATL, etc.

These shows are airline enthusiast shows...with stuff ranging from photo slides to silverware to timetables to models to signs, etc. I go to several of them a year...some are better than others.

Makes the plane look shorter. When I work for AS, there was a -400 (775) I believe that didn't have the lines on the engines and the plane looked longer. But it's just a matter of taste!

Edit: Found a pic.

I'm sure you're right. (For the record, I wasn't really suggesting that they should have arranged that.)

I attended one of these (I think it was probably this group) in SAN several years ago. Awsome!

I thought the shot with the sun shining through the windows of the jet as it flew by was very cool!

I love the 737 in air to air shots. It has a that look of distinction, wisdom and experience about it. There is no such thing as a bad angle for the 737.

At the 1:10 point of the video there is a 737 that appears to be lacking the stripes on the cowling.

That is N775AS mentioned above, you can clearly see the registration. An old segment too, that aircraft got the strips sometime between 1997 and 2000 based on the photo database.

Stunning is indeed the best word. If I could only watch one video for the rest of my life, I'd likely choose this one. Incredible air-to-air footage (yes, that lasts longer than 30 seconds!) breathtaking scenery, and lovely music to go with it! And to top it off, it's AS. I can't even say how much I love it.

Don't feel bad, the only youtube videos I see are ones posted here, and forget about social media, guess airliners.net is about as advanced as I'm going to get on the internet.

BTW, thanks to the OP for posting this link, awesome video and incredible various sceneries.

Great video, but why did they choose to post it in 480p only? Would look stunning in 1080p on a larger screen...

Enjoyed the aircraft and the great backgrounds especially boxy downtown Seattle.
