AS 737-800 At SNA Blows Tires 6/21

Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:27 pm

I was taxing past an Alaska Airlines 737-800 at SNA yesterday. It was sitting on the taxiway just clear of runway 19R surrounded by fire equipment and the passengers were being offloaded to busses.

It appeared to have blown a tire or two:

The #4 tire blew out, don't know the cause. The #3, #4 tires and #4 brake were replaced.

Could that have been from heavy braking action on SNA's very short runway? Perhaps he landed a bit long or fast and got on the brakes hard?

Quite possible or it could of been a hard landing. I have has some flight to SNA where they really flew it to the ground. Also have had some where they rotate an float and have to do heavy breaking. Then a very slow trip to the terminal.
