2012 MLB Charters

Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:18 am

I am wondering which airlines do the charter work for the MLB clubs this season?

I know the Braves use DL as do several others.

I know that the Cubs use UA, flt 1804 usually an A320 but sometimes a B757. And I think the other team on the south side of town, the White Sox, I think that they also use UA. And VX just came out with a SF Giants logojet saying that they were the official carrier of the Giants.

Being the "official carrier" or "official airline" of a team doesn't always mean the team uses that airline for charters. WN is or has been the "official airline" of a few teams, such as the Phillies. The Phillies, however, use DL for their charters.
Few or no pro teams use WN for their charters. Many college teams use WN though.

Delta does charters for the Angels, Braves, Orioles, Red Sox, Reds, Marlins, Twins, Mets, Yankees, Phillies, Pirates, Padres, Mariners, Cardinals and Rays.

The Rockies us a 727, N17773. The Rangers have used a 757, N757SS. The Tigers have used a DC-95, N682RW, although I don't think they are anymore.

The Nationals and D-backs have used Swift in the past, the A's have used Pace, not sure about this year. United has the Astros, Brewers, Cubs, Indians, Royals and White Sox. The White Sox have used American in the past, and the Cardinals have used American as well.

Nationals are using UA this year. Advertising to that effect ("Proud to Carry the Washington Nationals) is all over Nats Park.

Are these a/c fitted with F seats and do the galleys have ovens to serve warm meals for these big appetites?

Does WN not fly the professional teams because they don't have any a/c with Biz seating and no full service galleys?

UA is flying the Nationals, Cubs, Indians, Sox, Astros, Dodgers, Giants.

737-800 aircraft is 90% of the time, but some 757-200 in there. No special seating on board as sometimes these will run on passenger flights into a city then turn into the charter and vice versa.

I honestly don't know the reason, it's just an observation that I've made. Part of it may also be that they only offer one type of aircraft. Depending on the size of the traveling party, a 737 might not provide enough space for the team, equipment and entrouge to fly comfortably.

Most teams have an upgrade clause in the charter contracts that says the airline will provide a certain size aircraft (say a 757) or larger, whatever the airline has available, but the team has the option to upgrade to a larger aircraft once or twice a season at no additional charge. The only "upgrade" WN can offer these days is a 738.

The Rays flight number is DL 8898 and is generally a 738. They just returned back to DL this season after being with CO for the past 2-3 years.

D-backs have been chartering on US this season. They've typically been using flight number 9140 for west metal and 9110 for east metal.

Indeed. WestJet is the "official" airline of the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Blue Jays always use Air Canada charters.
