Embraer To Build Jets In China

Tue Jun 26, 2012 5:50 am

Hi everybody,

Found this in avweb today:

Quote:
In Rio de Janeiro last week, political leaders from Brazil and China signed an agreement that will allow Embraer to start building business jets in China. The deal creates a partnership between Embraer and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) to build Legacy 600 and 650 jets using a facility already in place in Harbin, China. The new operation is expected to produce about 20 jets a year for the Chinese market. The first Embraer jet to be built in China is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

Embraer negotiated with China for about two years to reach the deal. Originally, Embraer wanted to build regional jets at the Harbin facility, but their E190 would have competed against a Chinese-built aircraft. Embraer won't be without competitors in the country -- Cessna signed a deal with AVIC in March to build business jets in China.

What do you think about that? - I think its a good step into the future because they will get more attention now in China and Australia..

Hm.. my question is, will they just build sections of the jets and send them to brazil or will they build complete jets and sell them from China?

i´m sure they will build the whole jet... otherwise it´s very expensive to transport the sections all the way to brazil.... Embraer is working hard for the chinese market and this is a good move, not far ago they hire Jackie Chan to be the embraer ambassador for china and he even show his private legacy in the air shows.

however 20 jets a year is a lot but i´m sure they will build jets for the whole asia pacific area in Harbin.

Will they do like the Iphones (designed in California, built in China)----- (designed in Brazil, Made in China)????

Sounds as though they might build the complete frame in China. I don't think Embraer has the lift to transport sections back to Brazil for Final assembly. Airbus has a 320 assembly line and I believe they will not be transporting sections either, if the plant has Started up yet.

Haha maybe!
But I think now that it isn't that good business, as they build only Legacy 600 and 650 in China.. I dont think that this will work long.

To be precise, the title should rather be "Embraer to continue building jets in China". This deal basically saves the ERJ assembly facility that Embraer had there with Harbin. The Legacy 600/650 are the business jet versions of the ERJ145, so this will enable EMB to keep the line open now that ERJ orders have completely dried up and the big Hainan order not having been fulfilled.

EMB actually wanted to build Ejets there, but those would have been in competition with the ARJ (if it ever enters service?), so a no-go for the Chinese government.

For clarification, the Harbin plant up now did final assembly of ERJ-145 kits.

I expect this to be final assembly plus a few big parts maybe, but most parts of a Legacy can be shipped in a very normal way, maybe not with UPS, but any normal cargo A300/B767 can handle it. Parts for 20 Legacy a months mean less than 50 tons per months...
