Jet Airways To Suspend JFK Flights

Tue Jun 26, 2012 7:19 am

Jet Airways will be suspending its Chennai-Brussels-New York JFK-Brussels-Chennai service from 10th September 2012.
Jet Airways flights to New York will only be via New York Newark after the suspension of the New York JFK flights.
With Brussels Airlines recently starting Brussels-New York JFK flights, this may have had a impact on Jet Airways own JFK service via Brussels.
I believe Jet Airways will return to JFK in the near future, but probably via a different European airport.

This is old news... Was reported in first week of June.

Yeah, this was probably the factor which caused 9W to drop JFK. I would not be surprised to see 9W codeshare on the SN flight.

I don't know about that. As long as 9W is at BRU, I don't forsee them relaunching JFK. They're better off codesharing on SN.

And if 9W wants to serve JFK from another European airport, they'll move the whole scissor hub.

Does jet Airways operate any ULH airplanes that could make it to JFK non-stop?

rumor was that MUC is on the short list ... which makes decent sense if they're planning to enter alliance

let 9W do all the India-MUC sectors and let LH handle the MUC to US ones.

I wonder if it will be 9W or a partner airline...

Nor I. At least short term.

Where are the slots? Or will LH move flights around to accommodate 9W? This is all dependent upon which Indian airline joins *A.

Unlikely to be all for either party for either side of the hub. However, LH, UA, and AC would handle most of MUC to North America and 9W would get more than half of MUC to India. I would see 9W continuing to serve a few destinations, but not with much expansion in North America for a while. That is one 'cost' of joining an alliance.

However, its quite possible later 788s will do DEL-EWR non-stop and that could be made profitable, but not in this economy.

MAA-BRU is not affected. Only BRU-JFK is cancelled.

Work in progress.

MUC, AMS and MXP have been mentioned as possible new destinations for Jet's scissor hub, depending on which alliance rumors have Jet about to join.

On the one hand, Jet has invested a lot in BRU so I don't see them taking the decision to leave lightly, on the other if they join Skyteam, there's not much sense in keeping their hub in BRU, and BRU is tight on space in the morning bank anyway.

MUC isn't *THAT* slot restricted ? Most of LH's India flights are out of FRA, so 9W India-MUC would be complementary to LH

9W saves money by not needing to run a scissor hub (handing it off to LH/UA/US/AC). LH strengthens MUC. UA/AC gains extra Indian connectivity. Win-win for the parties involve. The only loser is BRU airport.

Who cares? Enough with the scissor hub already; it was a terrible idea. Fly Indians some place they want to go, not people you have zero point of sale advantage.

Munich Citizens Decide About Third Runway (by A342 Jun 17 2012 in Civil Aviation)#1

The graphic lays out how congested MUC was *last summer*. (Peak season.) Why would LH give up prime slots at MUC? The 3rd runway was voted down... It would take 9W joining *A for room to be made for them. There are slots, but not during LH's hub waves which is exactly when 9W would want to fly.

For example, LH departs at 11:45am to JFK. The connecting flight should arrive an hour ahead of time. There are *very* few slots for that.

The return flight is back in MUC at 7:55am. So the ideal time for 9W's arrivals to MUC at about 9am with a one or two hour turn. Looking at the graph, there is a 10:15am departure or a noon departure.

Slots are getting tight as MUC. In a few years, it will be discussed along side LHR due to the lack of expansion.

Jet did apply for 35 weekly flights in and out of MUC starting in W12. At the time, there was speculation that their intent was to move their hub from BRU to MUC but that was firmly denied by the airline, and there has been no follow-up since. Moving a scissor hub doesn't happen overnight, so I would think something would have been confirmed already if it were indeed to happen this winter.

To muddle things further, Jet also applied for 14 more slots (1 daily flights) out of BRU, but that was before the cancellation of BRU-JFK was announced.

Correct, they are planning to restart BLR-BRU-BLR early next year, maybe even in December 2012...

To make things a little more difficult, 9W was granted rights from BRU to ORD, IAD and SFO...

So, I wonder what the future brings us...

They better start SFO, ORD or IAD or the MAA and BLR flights to BRU will add up to too many terminator flights and not many onward flights.
If it wasn't for AI and those money mongers sitting in the parliament, 9W would have been as big as SQ...:(
