Jet2 B733 Emergency Right Now.

Mon Jul 02, 2012 9:03 am

Morning guys,

We currently have a Jet2 Boeing 737-300, Registration G-CELY, flight EXS717 Edinburgh - Palma Mallorca, currently holding at STIRA at FL80.

The aircraft is squawking 7704, which I believe to be one of the emergency squawk codes.

The aircraft took off from Runway 06 at 0937 local time, and departed via the DCS3D departure, but turned north as the aircraft flew over the Grangemouth / Falkirk area.

I'm listening in on the scanner so I will update as and when.

Appears to be a flap configuration problem, from what I can hear on the scanner, it's not the best reception this morning.

Just heard from the pilot. They were unable to retract the flaps after departure, hence the need to go into a hold to try and fix the problem. They have now reconfigured the flaps to landing configuration, but they are expecting to be holding for atleast 2 hours!

That's the way to ruin a few hundred people's holiday!!

UPDATE:

Pilot has stated that by 1000z they should be at maximum landing weight to make an approach into Edinburgh.
