You might want to change the title of this to "B6 announces CTGJFK" or something so that more people chime in!

One of our aircraft was supposedly at MOB today, N796JB. Can't find it on Flightaware though

Rumor mill here, is that B6 is coming before the year is out. RIAC has been redoing the old NW ticket counter/break area, and baggage office, I believe they are still working on them. Rumor has it they will operate out of the old AA gate, using the old NW counter/baggage office.

That's because it was at BFM, not MOB   B6 9501 from MCO.

Isnt cape air and air canada in the old NW space right now? AA and the old UA counters are both vacant and in a better location. Barger keeps saying they are coming, and the time is approaching for winter flying announcements, so hopefully we'll hear something soon!

Eh, scheduled traffic I think goes into MOB. BFM is where the cargo and maintenance is done I think. Isn't there a paint shop there? Someone else can probably clarify.

BFM has the air cargo, maintenance and I think a paint shop. Last time I was there was when we were doing a site plan/layout for the proposed A330 Tanker production facility. At the time they were doing the passenger to freighter cargo mod's on 757s.

Nope they are both handled by UA, at the new UA(old CO) counter. If you look quickly, the way the signs are, I can see how it might appear that way. But the NW counter is still vacant, infact the airport appears half empty, will all the vacant counter space.

Its an interesting new route for jetBlue. I can only hope that it does well and the airline ventures into more colombian cities, and certainly Medellin, which they have mentioned before.
This new route to CTG will be very much O&D given the proposed schedule, with departure at 8 am from JFK and arrival back at 7 pm or so.
CTG is a niche destination, and I hope it becomes an increasingly popular one for New Yorkers to go, but whether it will achieve a critical mass soon enough will have to be seen. There will also be some ethnic traffic, but not anywhere near as much as Medellin or Cali, for instance. Nor the business traffic that these could attract.

I'm guessing that's why it's only 3X weekly. Based on the pictures that I have seen so far, I would love to visit this city for a vacation!

Indeed, but I'm confident B6 will know how to make it work. It is already a very much talked-about place in the US and europe.

Quoting Summa767 (Reply 22):

Of course, CTG (1.1m people) is a much smaller metro area than MDE (3.4m) or CLO (2.8m) with a smaller emigration rate, but this route is certainly not aimed at attracting that market.

Quoting Summa767 (Reply 22):

First time I hear there is some sort of considerable business traffic from New York to Medellín and Cali. Even to Bogotá it is a small portion of the seats sold.

Kudos to B6 on launching this route to Cartagena, the city badly needs new international connections in order to keep positioning themselves as a world class tourist destination. I hope AA and UA set their eyes on CTG in the near future as well as UX when they are done restructuring and the euro charter carriers. The folks in Barranquilla which actually has considerable O/D to New York will also have a new option with this flight, a one and a half hour drive from their homes.

Doesn't AA already serve CTG through MIA or is it only Avianca?

Seems weird for B6 to open a station with only 3 weekly flights, maybe future service to FLL or MCO?

Not really:
These two stations opened up with non-daily ops:
LIR
LRM

Well you read what I posted. Not only doesn't AA serve CTG, they have never landed in CTG with a scheduled flight. Only AV serves MIA daily from CTG, and NK daily from FLL. AA flew to BAQ in the past, which is near by.

Niche vacation spots are generally never opened with daily flights by US carriers. (Cartagena has a very specific high-end tourism niche form the US, the lower end is still largely unexploited outside of Colombia, but these flights could be a beginning).

As I said, niche vacation spots. Liberia and La Romana are also in that club.

It may not be aimed at the ethnic market, but it imight well be useful for the critical mass that I mentioned.

I said that MDE and CLO have the potential to attract more business traffic than CTG, NOT* that there *IS* considerable business traffic. I simply don't know how much there is. But as you may have heard Colombia and the US signed a free trade agreement just recently, and this should result in more trade and more business travel between the US and different colombian cities, and certainly the more industrialised ones. BOG is already quite well served, whereas MDE and CLO could do with better connections to the US. jetBlue would be a good option, and would be able to offer new connecting possibilities.

Well sorry about that. But I actually think that with the port and the conventions that are held in Cartagena so often, CTG stands a better chance of attracting US business in the midst of the FTA.

The cities that are taking full advantage of the FTA right now are the portuary ones, as exports are growing fast. Economic reports say that the cities that will be most benefitted by the FTA are Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta, Colombia's three caribbean ports, as exports keep growing. Then come the industrialized cities, which already have the business ties. So the potential to generate new business traffic, although it will also come from the industrial cities (you can throw Barranquilla in there too along with the port), will mostly come from the portuary areas.

I don't think that conventions will be significantly boosted by a free trade agreement. Though jetBlue's new route surely will be useful for those, and that is one of the reasons that I wholeheartedly welcome it.
MDE and its province on the other hand contribute a lot in the country's non-traditional exports, and already has links. Medellin based Bancolombia is only one of the 2 companies listed in the NYSE, but more are set to follow. Nutresa is a candidate, Argos is another.

I agree on the potential of BAQ for more business given its port situation and a good admin in recent years and the relatively low unemployments shows this. CTG is something else in this respect.
