C&D Zodiac Introduces A320 SmartBin Pivot Bins

Tue Jul 03, 2012 10:48 pm

This is old news from April, but I think I should share it here:

Just as Heath Tecna has introduced Project Amber for the 737 and 757, C&D Zodiac is offering a similar package for the A320 series. It looks like C&D also wants Airbus to adopt the SmartBin on the A320neo.

I was wondering if Airbus was going to redesign the bins for the NEO. The 737NG with the Sky Interior wins in practical useable volume for rollaboard bags. By cubic feet, the pivot bins are smaller than the old shelf bins, but are shaped like a rectangle and more useful. I think the A320 really does need them since they have not kept pace with the sky interior bins.

You can say what you want about checked bag fees, and passenger in certain parts of the world bringing too much on board, but larger bins are always preferable for the airlines as they reduce the need to gate check bags and make boarding quicker, which translates to faster turn times.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I personally agree that Airbus should include the SmartBin as standard on the A320neo. As stated, while the bins have less total volume than the standard shelf bins, they have more usable volume than the old bins. The same is true for the 737 Sky Interior.

Yes, but remains a separate division from C&D Zodiac.
