Doesn't anyone know what the name of the aircraft is (written underneath the cockpit windows)?

That looks good!

Curious to know: What are the four "dots" in the white underbelly? One under the first A in Qatar, one under the T and two under the second A.

Sorry, ANA livery looks better in my opinion. QR livery is just too... grey. I don't like it.

I'm guessing you've never seen either in person? The Qatar colors on the 787 just pop, it's quite dynamic. But, to each their own

The Writing says "Ras Rikin" which means Cape Rikin, the northernmost tip of the Qatari peninsula. Most planes are named after places in Qatar. With more than 100 planes, some planes are named after desert areas!

IMO, to date, the 787 looks the best in Qatar colors. It has a very sharp and classy appearance..

Is it just me, or is the gray grayer than usual? Looking through the db, it seems like other Qatar jets appear to be painted with a tanner gray..

I have to agree with you, looking at the pic. Somehow, in QR's livery the 788 looks a bit more stubby.

I hope to see it at LHR this year, will be able to make better judgement. I've seen QR's 77F a couple of times at AMS, and that one looks great.... Not as great as LAN's 77F though, and I look forward to see their 787 soon. It should be a stunner

The oryx is smaller too! For the life of me I can't figure out why the titles look smaller on the 787 than the A330.. the titles end slightly before the top of the A330's door but on the 787 they extend all the way to the top (bigger?!).

IIRC, LHR would be one of the first 787 routes for QR. Next February I will go to SEZ, and I considered QR if the 787 was included in the itinerary. OTOH a QR 787/A319 combination vs a EK A380/A345 combination.... I'll choose the latter! I mean, 16'9" Y seats in the 787    vs 18" seats with 33" pitch in the A345! And, how many opportunities will be left to fly an A340-500?    In 10 years time, airports will crowded with 787s, it's probably a bore to fly one then

I like it very much. Best looking livery to date on the 787. Not just another boring white aircraft with a little decoration on the tail. I will agree with B738FlyUIA though, it does look better on the 777. That may just be a bias though as i think the triple looks good whatever it's wearing.

Does anyone know why the registration of Qatar's first 787 is A7-BCB? Shouldn't they start with A7-BCA?

Yes and Qatar's 787s should be the only 'coloured' 787s until Royal Jordanian takes deliveries of theirs (which should be Q1 2013 or thereabouts).

The titles likely look smaller because the plane is smaller. There is less space ahead of the wing for the titles, so they have to be scaled smaller to fit, especially since they always start them immediately aft of the first door. The larger windows also don't help, it throws off the since of size as we are use to smaller windows.

As for the oryx, QR revised their livery, with the oryx smaller and no longer extending down into the fuselage. I think I read somewhere it was for legibility reasons, some people had trouble making out the oryx in its earlier, larger form.

Actually, no it's not the first.. Boeing had two painted in the Dreamliner livery (ZA001 and ZA003).
I believe LAN is getting theirs before Royal Jordanian but I may be wrong. I'd call LA's livery colored too.
I think the non-white ones will al look good. Can't wait for VN and KE

You can include me in that group. I was looking at the 787 in the first posts, and thought, "Oh, neat, there's some sort of antelope on the tail." And this is not the first time I've seen photos of Qatar planes. So I'd call this a good change.

As for my most favourite 787s they are both the ANA inaugural machines the one I was on the inaugural flights.

Forget the QR machine.

I see a small logo on the engine cowling.. I thought all that was suppose to be clean or was it just the colour in general being gray or white? Nice to see though. I also like the smaller Oryx. It's the first time I've really made out what it is too so I guess I fell into that category of casual onlookers seeing a blobby red design on their tails.

That is the aluminum leading edge of the tail. Because of the direct sunlight reflecting off the bare metal it looks white.

Yes, Capt. Neville & Bryan, according to the Boeing blog post.

There's no particular authorization or training that's legally required but it's certainly a good idea; the airshow may levy additional requirements as well. The bio's of Capt. Neville & Bryan used to be available on 787flighttest.com...suffice to say, they're qualified.

The hatch may be opened and closed many times. The friction wheels are one use each. (There are usually eight, but I'm not certain about the 787.)

Thanks! I didn't realize the "clean area" was so precise.. and so small.

Also, I really like the normal size logo on the tail. It is so much cleaner and easier to identify. Good move on their part!

A7-BCA is still in Everett.

Do you know what its serial number or test registration is? I can't find any references to it anywhere.

Quoting ER757 (Reply 31):
Actually, no it's not the first.. Boeing had two painted in the Dreamliner livery (ZA001 and ZA003).

Good point.

Quoting ER757 (Reply 31):
I'd call LA's livery colored too.

Normally I would too, but based on QANTAS747-438's definition I wouldn't.

Quoting SESGDL (Reply 44):
why can't the 787's engines be painted anything other than white?

They don't have to be white; they can also be grey. They have to be a uniform colour because Boeing said that's necessary to maintain the laminar flow on the nacelle (the paint line in the livery could trip the boundary layer). As far as I can tell this is only an actual restriction for the forward portion of the nacelle but I suspect it's just simpler to go uniform than try to tweak existing liveries into a restricted paint area.

Quoting lightsaber (Reply 45):
The friction wheels are one use each. (There are usually eight, but I'm not certain about the 787.)

Four on the 787.

Perfect positioning of Arabic title on 787 would be for the letter "Hay" to be placed between the fourth and fifth windows after R, same goes for "Alif" on the right side after Q, as on A332 fleet.
