Flightglobal: Exclusive QR 787 Air-to-air Video

Fri Jul 06, 2012 6:10 pm

Complete with heat-sensitive camera footage. A very different view of the Qatar 787:

Impressive maneuverability and the FLIR images were...well, I'd say cool, but...

That is really neat.
Thanks for posting the link.
The APU, windsheild and pitot tube hotspots all made sense to me....what are the other hotspots on the wing and under the wheelbox?

Looks like it's going to be a great show - I'm envious of those of you who will be there. Have seen plenty of 787's buzzing around in the skies over Seattle, but none doing those types of maneuvers.

Very cool although does anyone else find it disturbing to have crosshairs on a commercial airliner?

Chills and goosebumps . . .

Yep, and them too huge heat signatures . . .

You do have to admit that on a couple of scenes, it seams like the plane was coming around for a bombing run . . .

Just imagine it as a P-8A and you'll feel less disturbed.

Some are reflections of the heat from the engines. These you can spot from the relative motion.

I would suspect the fixed ones in the wings and such are actuators/motors.

There may be some heat from outflow valves too.

Very cool

I have to say when the captain banked after rotation, I grinned from ear to ear!! Reminds me of the air to air demo when the 787 first visited New Zealand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YryTXCRWfSQ

Amazing footage! The size of the wing and especially those engines keep amazing me!

On the wing it's reflected engine heat from the flap fairings.

The stuff on the belly is the cabin air compressor inlets (forward) and the ram air exhaust (aft).

You can see a faint trail from the outflow valve as well but it's back by door 4, nowhere near the wings.

..Lets face it, they were HOT!    Would've like to have seen the touchdown on FLIR but the vid ends just as the aircraft flares.

I'm not the biggest fan of the 787's bloated fuselage, but the wings are very pretty. Nice to see she's been greeted in Farnborough by the lovely British summer.
