1,035th 767 & 777 - On The Line Together

Sat Jul 07, 2012 4:14 pm

An interesting coincidence on the Boeing production line: the 1,035th 767 and 777 on the line together; the 767 will go to UPS, while the 777 will go to Qatar Airways (likely to be A7-BAX):

It would be cool if they could be rolled out and even delivered together, but I expect the assembly rate for the 777 is quicker.

N353UP will deliver to UPS in late August, I don't know if that is 1035 or not. Next UPS delivery is in 2013.

1,035th 767 & 777 - On The Line Together

Sat Jul 07, 2012 4:36 pm

It's very interesting but basically happens with any type which is built in a faster rate then another.
At first the 767 was ahead of the 757, it flew earlier and sold better in the 1980s. Then with l/n 374 (both flew on 31 May 1991) the 757 surpassed the 767, but the 767 will soon get the last laugh when #1051 is flying long after the 757 production is closed.
On the same way, once the 727 and 737 passed the 707, then the 737 surpassed the 727 etc.
And on one day, the 777 will surpass the 747 and perhaps the 787 will surpass both. No airplane from Boeing will catch in with the 737NG though anytime soon (now 4113 built and counting).
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Never say never! If the B787 expands its product offering (787-3) then the smaller -3 model for instance could become the B737 replacement in many markets and enable expansion.

Well done the B767!

The 767's story is remarkable. I recall a number of threads just a few years back predicting that the 767 would never quite make it to 1000 frames. Not even factoring in the military tanker program, the 767 has surpassed expectations. As I often say on this site, the 767 is just about my favorite widebody. I love the cross-section. Roomy, but not too big.

Has the 777 sold 1035 planes ? thought it was about 750.

As of June 2012, the 777 family has secured 1372 orders in total.

I think if people had started getting their 787s when they were supposed to, that would have been a logical prediction.

What versions of 767 and 777 families are currently on offer?

I believe for the 767 the 200er and 300er ( forgot the 400er) versions are available. For the T7 it would be the W and L versions.

All versions of the 777 are still offered, but the chances of an airline deciding not to choose the -300ER, -200LR, or -200F over the -200/ER and -300 are rather slim. SU ordered 2 777-200ERs last year, but I believe they have converted them to -300ERs like the rest of their order.

On a related note, this month, the total 777 deliveries will pass the total 767 deliveries. As of the end of June, 1027 767s had been delivered and one more to LAN in July (CC-BDE) = 1028 total 767s. At present, 1025 777s have been delivered and Boeing deliver roughly seven 777s per month.

Hmmm. Boeing removed the 200A and 300A from 'current models' some time back, so I don't believe they are offered. The -200ER is of course still offered - there is a freshly built Asiana -200ER l/n 1027 (one of two orders) and ANA have three more -200ERs (from an order of five) due to go to them. Not sure what the survivor/successor entity to AA will do about AA's -200ER orders - but a conversion of those to 77Ws is quite possible.
