Farnborough 2012 Airbus Orders Thread

Sun Jul 08, 2012 10:31 pm

With the Farnborough International Airshow 2012 now upon us and the expected announcement of order from Airbus, Boeing, as well as manufacturers like Bombardier, Embraer, ATR, and Sukhoi, we are going to have dedicated threads for Airbus orders, Boeing orders, and one for other manufacturers.

The purpose of these threads is to keep a daily tabulation on any announcements made and to keep seperate each companies announcements. Though we understand there will be split orders, having the official threads should make it a lot easier to track orders for each OEM and make for a good reference for the future of the site.

We do realise that there will / may be major orders announced given recent speculation and some media reports. Therefore, if an order is announced and listed here, by a New A380 / 747-8 Operator, a Major A350 / B787 commitment or by a carrier of regional or strategic importance, it should be entitled to it's own seperate thread. We ask that order be posted here with a link to the relevent thread and a link back to this thread, that way a free and open discussion can be had on these orders without overwhelming the official threads.

This is the dedicated thread for the discussion of Airbus orders. The dedicated threads for Boeing and other manufacturers can be found here:

Farnborough 2012 Boeing Orders Thread

Farnborough 2012 Other Manufacturers Thread

On the engine front, both Norwegian and Cebu Pacific have selected Pratt for their NEOs, giving Pratt a slight edge in the NEO market to date.

"Another"? In recent times they've ordered quite a variety, range and number of models. In any case, I'd hardly characterise 26 new A350-1000 orders as "disappointing" (even if some come at the price of conversions from the A350-900.

This is excellent news for the A350-1000, I was kind of expecting it, since I wasn't really sure how CX was planning to use 38 A359's...Converting at least some made sense.

I'm pretty sure this order for A35J's will be for the majority to replace CX's remaining 744s. No VLA's for CX for the foreseeable future I would tend to think. Just 748F's.

The 777-300ERs on order will be able to do that, so I am thinking 777-300 replacement (that is 12 frames) and expansion.

I would have thought the A350-900 would have been tasked to those replacements, but CX does have 17 new A330-300s coming, so adding the 22 remaining A350-900s would cover replacement of the current 35-frame A330-300 fleet.

A reminder, this thread is for the discussion of announced orders and that's it. No comparing the number of orders of a Boeing a/c with that of a competing Airbus product, nothing in regards to rumored ordered. If users want to do that, do it in a separate thread. The Moderators have had to gut this thread a few times already because some of the participants are choosing to ignore the requests made of them by the Moderators.

Just to be clear, these are all new orders - 10 of them. Five may have been ordered earlier but they were never announced. CIT have no A330 orders with Airbus in January to June.

http://atwonline.com/aircraft-engine...ews/cit-places-order-10-a330s-0711

"Airbus COO-customers John Leahy said agreement on the first five aircraft was reached earlier this year, but they were not included in the manufacturer’s order log until today’s signing. CIT is one of the largest A330 customers, with this order bringing its total up to 51 of the type."

As of the end of June they had 41 on order. Now it's 51. That's 10 new orders.

NEW YORK & FARNBOROUGH, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CIT Group Inc. (NYSE: CIT) cit.com, a global leader in transportation finance, today announced from the Farnborough International Air Show (Air Show) that CIT Aerospace has placed orders with Airbus for 10 A330 aircraft in 2012. Five A330 aircraft were ordered earlier this year in conjunction with the cancellation of orders for four A320 family aircraft and the exercise of an aircraft purchase option. If, and this is big if, they will anounce a new customer they maybe have foreseen a location for a new sticker on the front section of the fuselage. There is even a gap between the stickers but I think this empty space is there already since several months.

Well, as EPA001 noted, I think Airbus will be pleased with their tally. No A380s, but that was to be expected after Leahy announced the downward revision of expected orders for that type.

They might still show up, albeit in another thread

I didn't want to go there

The potential AirAsia order didn't materialize either. It looks like Tony Fernandez spent quite a bit of time at the BBD chalet... model of CSeries in AirAsia colors, plenty of photos (to which Tony said "send those to John" hehe).

Seems like it may be finalized soon though:

"Asia's largest low-cost carrier, expects to finalise an order for 50 Airbus (EAD.PA) A320 aircraft, with options to buy a further 50 of the planes, within the next two months, the airline's chief executive said on Thursday."

These seem to be OEOs, as there is no mention of NEOs (or sharklets, for that matter) anywhere in the press release.

Not NEOs, but they're getting sharklets according to Airbus' twitter feed.

On the subject of CEOs, Leahy was quoted as saying his sales target is 300 A320ceo this year.
