AA Increasing Flights To Brazil

Thu Jul 12, 2012 6:56 pm

Looks like AA recieved approval for extra flights to Brazil.

Does anyone know if these new flights will operate year round or just for the winter months?

They will need them! Yesterday Brazil and US signed ... a Statement of Intent to establish a Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Working Group with Foreign Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota

"
In Brasilia, Secretary Napolitano participated in a signing of a Joint Statement on Global Supply Chain Security with Brazilian Finance Minister Guido Mantega and Director of Customs Carlos Alberto Freitas Barreto; an agreement on combating human trafficking with President of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court and Chief Justice Carlos Ayres Britto; a Statement of Intent to establish a Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Working Group with Foreign Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota; and an Joint Statement of Intent on Civil Aviation Security with Minister of Civil Aviation Wagner Bittencourt.

So what will the the competitive response from UA and DL? Or even US? Or are they all going to give Brazil to AA?
The world is missing love, let's use our flights to spread it!

They are going to do what they usually do. Leave the secondary Brazilian cities to AA free of competition and be completely GRU and maybe GIG centric. IMO UA needs to get in there from IAH or EWR, I think BSB, CNF or mate even MAO are Possible from either IAH or EWR.

Hooray! This will make it much easier to travel to one of my favorite countries!

Which is too bad. Was hoping that we'd see a Porto Alegre flight (lots of speculation about that on A.net). I am looking at a Pan Am map in a September 1938 copy of The Official Guide of the Railways (yes, railways!) and an American carrier--Pan Am-- served POA then. Not so today, unless something has changed since my last trip there a year ago.

Hi Lipe, You are correct! If in fact the US government adds Brazil to the VWP, there will not be enough air seats to accommodate citizens of both nations, wanting to travel and spend their money in each other's country's. This will be a lucrative gold mine for US carriers, and for TAM. I Could also envision GOL adding more service to the US as a result, assuming that agreements were expanded. I think that will have to happen.

Any word on when we might see an implementation date? My visa expires in February of 2013. Maybe I wont need to renew it! That would be great!!

I'd say completely GRU centric. Even GIG is somewhat neglected. For instance there's no EWR-GIG and IAD-GIG nonstop service. And Delta, since 2005 (when they returned to the city), only serves the city with a single flight to ATL.

Personally I think that BSB is well covered with DL, AA and JJ flying nonstop to the US. Perhaps an increse of the aircraft used on the route would be in order during the peak season.

CNF on the other hand isn't well covered. It's a large metro area with business traffic that only had a handful of JJ and AA flights to MIA. DL could try something there using the power of its ATL hub.

POA is completely left out. A POA-MIA service would work really well but I don't know how it would work due to runway restrictions at SBPA.

Restrictions at CWB are even worse but there's a good market. Especially when it comes to cargo.
Please insert a "smart" joke here.

POA and CWB are definitely left out. I think that they should be AA's next priorities in Brazil. Could they do something like what they did with REC and SSA where it was a triangle routing? And then in the future once the flight has proven itself separate into their own flights?

Too much buzz!!! In fact, AA is already decreasing CNF and BSB back to 3 weekly and 5 weekly, respectively. GIG second daily flight probably will have the same fate, operating on daily basis only seasonally. The same could be expected for the 5 weekly additional service between GRU and DFW.
