Pet Airways Info

Fri Jul 13, 2012 8:04 pm

Pet Airways is an airline that caters to pets and animals only. I was wondering if any knows what kind of planes they fly, as they avidently have 20 aircraft in their fleet. Anybody have any info on their fleet and livery (if any)? They fly out of my nearest airport, KFRG, and my dog can't fly on the planes eith me, so I am looking into this airline.

Thanks for any info.

Now that I see their planes, I realize that I have actually seen them, but it was dark outside so I couldn't read the titles. I thought it was an Atlas Air Beechcraft!

I've never seen a photo of their airplanes on the D.B. But apparently they used to be owned by Suburban Air Freight but I think the airline owns them now, instead of Suburban.

Their website used to say that they contracted the flying out to Suburban, but I don't know what has happened, since.

I didn't realize that they had their logo on the plane. I figured they just chartered someone elses planes.

Kind of off topic, but how many hours do they require to be a first officer there? Or does the 1500 hour rule apply to Part 135 operators as well?

They may have higher requirements, but 135 mins are (for IFR) 1200 Total, 500 Cross Country, 100 Night and 75 Instrument (50 of which must be in flight). Again, these are just minimums and they may require higher times, but this is the basis.

Actually, that's only for a IFR PIC. A VFR PIC only requires 500hrs total with 100hrs cross country with 25 of those at night.

For SIC it's only commercial license with instrument rating according to part 135 section 245. However, I thought there was a time requirement of 250hrs for SIC, but I guess not. Unless that was just referencing being a Commercial pilot which is 250hrs when done part 61.

They've never had an aircraft incident or crash, so I imagine that they are safe to use.
Their kennels clip into special holders inside the aircraft and there is a "pet attendant" available for them to keep them comfy during the flight.

For an animal lover like myself, it must be awesome to be the pet attendant! Now if only they flew E-190s I'd definitely to try work for them!

If you live in one of the cities they serve they frequently post job listings on their website.
There are positions for station agent & customer service (working in their terminal near the airport) and then Pet Attendants which load and fly with the "pawssengers". It could be a fun job for someone who really likes dogs!

Pet Airways... for pets and animals. Interesting! Expensive, I suppose.

I don't think they charge any more (or less) than the airlines do to ship animals as cargo. Considering their equipment, it may take longer, tho.

It does. Looks like a cross-country trip could take all week.
