KLM AMS-YVR Upgrade From A332 To B772

Tue Jul 17, 2012 9:43 am

Hi all,

couldn't find this in the search but it seems like KLM has upgraded their service KL 681 to YVR. I think this is good news! Too bad it isn't a 772-LR but better than nothing. Does anyone know if they still have their flights to YYC? How are they doing on this route being that Air Canada (Air Transat does fly this route though).

I'm guessing you mean 77W (773ER) since KL don't have any 77Ls.

Yep, we still have KL serving YYC, it was upgraded to daily from 5x weekly this summer with an 332 being used on this route

Is this supposed to be a 332 daily or a mix of equipment? I ask because I flew through AMS two days ago and saw the flight to Calgary departing. It looked to be PH-AKB, a 333. I was quite surprised to see a 333 being used rather than a 332.

Regarding YYC, it will be an A333 on the weekends for the summer as far as I can tell. Hasn't YVR been served by B772 for sometime now, previously by MD-11/B744 equipment? Are you saying they've 'upgauged' to B77W? If so, that's 100+ seats more than the usual 772, quite substantial, and even a few more seats than the 744.

This is interesting - I am seeing 355 daily seats on YVRAMS which would indicate that it is indeed being served on a 77W - and this will be the case until 22OCT when it reverts back to an A330 5x weekly, but still offering 288 seats (meaning this will be on a 333!)

My source may be incorrect - but I am curious to know! I was in YVR a few weeks ago, but left before the KL plane arrived.

KLM's service to YVR has been with a B772 since May I believe. Before that was MD11 in the summer and A332 in the winter for the past few years and before that was MD11.

I don't understand the connection between 355 seats and a 77W. KL 772Ws have 425 seats and their 77Es 318 seats. Their 77Ws also have cramped 10-abreast (3-4-3) seating in Y class while their 77Es are much more civililized 9-abreast (3-3-3).

Flightaware shows aircraft designation as 777. Not sure which type it refers to. Actually tomorrow's flight is schedueled with the MD-11!

I am booked on AMS-YVR in October, and my itinerary shows 772.

That's why I said my source was probably incorrect. I am seeing 35 C seats and 320 Y seats which doesn't seem accurate. My apologies.

has upgraded their service

For point of clarification, the term is upgauge

Upgrade is something that happens to a passenger, or frequency adjustment.

A sizing capacity change is gauge.

Well according to Flightrdar24 the flight is operated by a 777-200 ER type which surprises me since KLM doesn't have any of these... KLM Asia however does!

The flight arriving shortly today is registered PH-BQM

What are you referring to? KLM's fleet includes 15 777-200ERs.
