BA Adds 3rd Daily TLV Flight From LHR

Wed Jul 18, 2012 8:06 am

BA announced already its intention to switch to A321 EX BD,today they announced that a 3rd flight to TLV will be added.
According to BA israel manager the planes will use BD real buisness class(unlike club europe) and that the departure will be from T1 and not T5.
any guesses on the scheduale of the 3rd flight?
pics of the biz class gladly appreciated

If this additional service is linked to a change to an all A321 service then looking at the seating plan above it seems that overall there will be a similar number of daily seats to those currently available - though no first class, as is currently available on one of the two existing flights per day, or premium economy.

Hi!

Just thought I'd make a couple of points.

I'm not sure if this BMI expansion was really good in that BA is no longer a predominantly T5 airline at Heathrow. Maybe it is just me but a large part of the BA thing for me when buying tickets was that they almost always flew from T5. To me that added a lot to their appeal. Yes they have expanded but they have lost something too in my eyes.

And the other thing is I have a jewish friend who flies to Israel sometimes and says he always flies BA and the main reason he chooses them is that he doesn't like all the questioning and stuff on El Al even though that is his true national carrier. I know the reasons why they have to question and I'm not saying it's a bad thing but I wonder if he's alone in his thinking or if the easier security attracts lots of people from flying on El Al.

Many thanks.

Well simply put, T5 is too small! It only opened 4 years ago and even since then they have had a divided operation between T5 and T3. But even with T1 now in the fold it is far better then the days of T4. IMHO I do not think BA will be in T1 for long. It ill be a short to medium term thing until T2 is complete and perhaps that will attract more passengers out of T3 and free up space for BA to amalgamate the remaining services back into a 2 terminal operation.

Far too much of the current T1 which BA will be using is either cannabilised or just too old to be maintained for much longer. The jettys are falling to pieces, Gates 70-90s are not really fit for purpose and to be honest, I just dont think the terminal can continue for much longer!

My guess is that all Domestic and ROI flights will eventually move to T5. A handful of medium haul routes operated by the former BMI 321 aircraft will move to T1 (such as TLV, CAI etc) and a few other european routes! All other longhaul stuff will stay as they are!

T1 will be around for a few years yet .

Phase 2 of Heathrow east is along way out and T2/2a. Won't fit all of *A either !

Virgins interest in the new T2 might be interesting as it could allow BA to consolidate into T3/5 in a few years in swap over opration.

The Ireland pier is scheduled to remain well into the foreseeable future and may even remain as part of the phase 2 development !

Further the ex bmi A319s may never get to operating out of T5 on regular basis as they are bulk load and not palletised.

As for three terminal operations it's something BA really are used too isn't it

Why LY? Do you see a smaller aircraft but with a similar onboard product as a downgrade? They are offering more seats overall on the route with increased frequency which can only be a good thing!
The service onboard will be the same longhaul product and I believe the refurbished 321s will have AVOD throughout so no problems there. Not to mention that the 321s tend to have more cabin baggage space then the 767 which operate one of the current services!

The only thing lacking is First and WTP which are both cabins which are probably unneccasary on such a short flight!

Correct...

Ultimately, the services will free up some 777, 767 and 744 that can be used elsewhere...

We might even see the A321s serve Moscow.

And has it been confirmed that all three flights will be A321 operated or could it be something like 1 x 772, 2 x 321 operated?

This is a very bad good translate:

British Airways will continue from October 28, a third daily flight line London - City. New flight will take off from Israel to London in the evening and morning hours.

At the same time to add the flight, the line will be replaced by jet aircraft type wide - narrow body aircraft - Airbus body 321 with an improved configuration will include 23 seats in business class bed.

According to Yael Katan, British director in Israel, is adding 11% of seating capacity on the line. "Israel will be the first line will enjoy new configuration, the aircraft is received by us Bi.am. Van islands keep the product U Long - Hole Quality."

Includes economy class seats and 131 also include improvements compared to other companies. "The third flight will promote the continued Shtksno goals to reach before. A small plane - the world's first body to run a wide plane - a body. Include business class flat beds seven feet long.'s Product is tailored specifically to Israel and has never been tried in the world", she added.

She says middle class and first class spend the time idly in favor of improved leather seats with four modes of sitting in economy class. Another change is that the flights to and from land and take off from Terminal 1 instead of Terminal 5.

Lufthansa announced last week the aircraft beyond the narrow - efficiency measures as part of the body. The move of leaving the Swis British and the only European representative Iberia aircraft operators throughout - body lines to Israel.

Hope it might help.

Depends... if you compare a BA 321 in Mid haul config vs a euro LH plane then id take the BA one.

So getting the new Thales IFE similar to that found on the B777-300 too. So all in all its going to be a pretty comfy ride!

It is now confirmed on BA.com.

http://www.britishairways.com/travel...nter-flights-schedule/public/en_gb

Tel Aviv and Cairo are moving to Terminal 1. Tel Aviv is to be served 3 times daily while Cairo will only be served once daily.

Terminal 1 means obviously A321s and no widebodies.

Tblisi, Yerevan, Dammam, Bishkek and Khartoum are all axed.

Despite the extra frequency, this is disappointing news for me. For years, I've been able to connect with relative ease to both the morning and evening flights to TLV, so the extra frequency will not add much in terms of additional options. With the move to terminal 1, connecting between terminals is a hassle that I am going to want to try to avoid going forward when possible; especially after my recent poor experience of doing a similar connection at CDG from 2E to 2D.

I can imagine if you flew into and out of T5 this will come as quite a big downer. T5 really is nice. As far as I know United still fly to terminal 1 so maybe you could take United if they fly the route you want to T1 and then go from there so you wouldn't need the Terminal change which can be a hassle. T1 is quite depressing but it is not too bad airside.

Many thanks.

Underperforming routes to Amritsar, Bishkek, Casablanca, Dammam, Khartoum and Yerevan will be suspended throughout September and October in the changes."

The link provideed toystan also announces the following changes:

"The news was confirmed as BA announced the next part of its integration of Bmi into this winter's operations at Heathrow. Key points include:

" •A new three times-daily service to Rotterdam from December 9

" •Three flights per week to Alicante from October 28

" •BA flights to Gibraltar will increase from seven to nine flights per week

" •The carrier’s Tel Aviv route will increase from 14 to 20 services per week, with the new A321s serving flights from the new year

" •Bmi services to Dammam will cease on September 16, with routes to Bishkek and Khartoum stopping on October 1, Yerevan on October 13, and Amritsar and Casablanca on October 28

" •Bmi services to Cairo, Moscow, Riyadh and Jeddah will cease, although BA’s flights to these destinations will continue

" •BA’s flights to Riyadh will be served with a B747 rather than the current B777"

All the satellites are built!!! There are no plans at present to develop T5D! What we have now will be T5 for the foreseeable future.

I think personally that they should consider extending the T5 track transit to T3 and allow check in at either end!

Well on such a short flight a widebody is a mere nicety.

If the demand is there then great but as luck would have it, it would appear that frequency is now more of a priority and therefore something has got to give.

As it is, the 3 flights provide more capacity and also possibly more employment locally with handling and admin facilities. And on top of that the new interiors will have the same WT IFE system as the small handful of brand new 777s in the fleet (and the same system thats being installed on the A380 and 787 fleet) so its actually an upgraded experience!

This comes as a huge disappointment - I don't mind the 321s, definitely the new cabin looks better then that old 763s, and even the 777s BA put on this route were not that new either. However, connecting between T5 and T1 is going to be a huge problem - something I will try to avoid as much as possible from now. My parents missed their flight last week connecting from T1 to T5, and they had more than 2 hours. BA stuffing at the T5 connection center was totally inadequate. Too bad, one less option to TLV.

The routes being kept are not surprising, however I'm a bit surprised by Bishkek being axed? Thought along with Baku these were two strong routes to central Europe? With BA being the only Western European carrier into Kyrgyzstan I thought they might have been able to make it work. The only way now to London is via Moscow on Aeroflot or backtracking all the way to Dubai on flyDubai or Istanbul on TK - either that or flying on some of the more dodgy carriers of the region.

BA don't want to be fully in T5 and enjoy being in T3 and now T1 as it was never intended for BA to solely be in T5. Using other terminals allows BA to sit on user committees for the respective terminals and spy on what the others are up too.

Point taken. I'm no businessman and don't know if the purchase of BMI and expansion makes sense but if it does help the airline thrive then yes having multiple terminals is a small price to pay I guess.

Many thanks.
