Storms Damage Planes At Oshkosh Air Venture 2012

Thu Jul 26, 2012 10:15 pm

I'm hearing a major storm went through OshKosh Air Venture and damaged some planes. This sounds like Sun N Fun 2011 all over again

This is the only picture I could find from the Air Venture facebook page that someone posted on the warbird exchange. I am hoping this is the only 2 planes damaged but I have a feeling we will find out more

I'm wondering about all those J-3s that were visiting this year.

Yeah I saw in someone's photo that there looked to be 50+ J3 Cubs there. It depends how the winds are I guess. Look at the tent in the background of the picture that isn't even anchored down that well or at least it appears. You would think if there was a big overall wind that would have gotten blown over but it looks like it didn't even get touched - so it must have been a small area of wind

Just returned from AirVenture today...best wishes to everyone still out there. There was a weather alert yesterday so I ended up leaving before it came through but it looked nasty.

The J-3 lineup was something to see, beautiful aircraft. Hope everyone's birds are okay, always upsetting to hear about stuff like this.

Quoting mayor (Reply 1):

Over 300 were signed up to attend. I was even going to fly our L-21 there, but it was not ready or the trip.

With all this weather, I'm guessing a lot of them weren't able to make the trip.

Hopefully, these were the only two aircraft involved.
