I saw this photo and I wondered what is going on here. I assume this Tu-134 is going somewhere off of the airport, but to where and why?

It appears to have a part of the tail missing, the top of the nose looks damaged and the wingtip looks damaged.

That's a large helicopter.

A Mil Mi-8? Only a guess.

It does appear to be rather beatup. There are photos of it flying as recently as 2008. I was wondering if it was being moved to someplace for display or to be some sort of business.

Another Tu-134 was moved by helicopter in 2009. From the video below it looks like it was being delivered for display at some off-airport site.

More photos of what appears to be that 2009 event here, as well as some older photos of other large Russian aircraft being lifted by helicopters.

I thought it was just a clever attempt at saving fuel. The pax board the jet, and instead of starting up the jet engines, they hook them up to a helicopter and carry them to their destination.
The plural of Airbus is Airbuses. Airbii is not a word, and doesn't even make sense.

Well, from the top of my head, it seems that the Tu-134 is being cargo slinged by a Mi-26!

The Mi-26 is really huge... Cargo capacity exceeding that of a C-130B. I've been up close and it is really astonishing.

The Pulkovo 134 from the youtube video serves now as a trainer for special forces. They use it for anti terror training on the ground. I had the pleasure of riding this 134 twice... unfortunate faith now as a trainer...

The other one featured in the pic above is the one from Air Volga and formerly SU Don, in it's last months of operations it served for SU Nord. I know one of the (former TU3) navigators of SU Nord quite well, and he told me that this was the most worn down TU3 in whole Russia, having even trouble keeping the cabin pressurized. But other than her age, hell of a plane, can't break it! I don't know where it's going though.

They always take off the wingtips and the elevator for stability reasons.

There was also a TU3 carried with a Mi26 in Moldova, there are also pics of that, and I suppose a video as well.

As to the size of the Mi26- there is a video of one towing a Chinook... when I visited a National Air Guard Base in the US, the pilots and staff proudly told me that the Chinook is the largest helicopter in the world. Me mentioning the Mi26 was ignored.

Now look at that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF5pqwFFik4

No APU, so they're trying to air start it.
