10th(of 16) DL 744 Mod Complete

Mon Jul 30, 2012 5:06 pm

The 10th 744 Mod, N667US has been completed and is due out of SIN on 01AUG, to be replaced by N672US.

This will leave 2 aircraft in modification, with only 4 remaining 744's to enter modification. The October finish date looks good as long as the remaining mods take the standard 6 weeks to accomplish.

The aircraft have nose to tail AVOD, lie flat biz elite, new Y+/Y seats. The 11th aircraft should be out of mods by mid August.

Delta only has 15 744's now. They returned one to the lessor last year.

atdb.org shows 16 in the current fleet----which a/c was returned to the lessor?

All 16 are in the fleet and operating.

I believe they planned to return 2 birds, but then extended the leases on both of them instead.

I know one was returned last year, but I don't know which one. I think it was one of the newer ones. Delta.com is showing only 15 as of June 30th. See the following link:

Welcome to the 21st century haha. BA/SQ etc have had this for years, why has it taken them so long (more aimed at PMNW of course)?

That's not true. One had been in storage for almost a year and was returned to service before S12 and another frame (not sure of the reg.) was SUPPOSE to be returned but DL decided to keep it. All 16 are on the active fleet list..

SQ never had lie-flat seats on their 747-400s and was operating them with the angled flat seats until earlier this year. DL will be completely lie flat in business within a couple years of SQ converting to full lie flat. BA was certainly ahead of the curve.

If you want to talk about an airline behind the times, AA, AF, JL, LH, have virtually no lie flat airplanes in their fleets. Even EK doesn't have full lie flat seats on all its long haul airplanes and has no intention to go horizontal flat on their 777 fleet.

The number of airlines with fully horizontal flat seats in business across their fleets is actually quite limited. However, the DL business elite seat on the 767 is a narrow atrocity by today's standards.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I think the fleet page must be wrong. There is recent Delta flight activity from all of the frames except 6311 (currently in mods) and 6307 (now coming out of mods).

6314 was in storage for several months but came back out and into service.

Well, then I happily stand corrected!
