Conviasa To Buy 20 E-190 ( 6 Firm Ord + 14 Option)

Tue Jul 31, 2012 6:42 pm

This is a surprising move, at least I didn't see this coming. I always thought that Conviasa will buy bigger jets some time, and not before the second half of the decade. I guess this proofs how lost I was regarding Conviasa

What do you think about ??

Interesting. This announcement comes during the official announcement of Venezuela's becoming a full member of MERCOSUR.

Is Conviasa still getting the A345's?

Positive news because Venezuela's domestic airline fleet is full of 35-year old jets and this is a great improvement for the public as whole. I think it is also positive that Conviasa concentrates on domestic sector services in the country as it really can't compete in the international front. Conviasa--flushed with government subsidies--is about the only airline in the country able to afford such purchase.

Congrats to Conviasa, still, I can't help and get nostalgic when I think about the old Venezuela, and its original flag carrier and where the country was thirty years ago and where it is today, but that's a topic for an entire forum. Images can express more than words sometimes.

You got that right, don't they have a HUGE excise tax on new aircraft, some percentage that almost doubles the price for them? I just remembered reading an article about SBA Airlines and Aserca and thinking how ridiculous it was that these airlines wanted to expand and bring new aircraft into their fleets but couldn't because they could never afford to pay the huge taxes/tariffs on top of the price for the newer aircraft.

From what I understand, and could be wrong, is that there is a big import tax on the purchase of factory fresh aircraft, but this is something that is not new as I believe that it has been in place since the 80s. However, this import/excise tax is just a minor nuisance. What hurts the private airlines in Venezuela is their inability to transfer the necessary funds out of the country to pay for services, as well as work with the hyperinflation that plagues the country.

Perhaps they will use them for the popular CCS-PBM-NAT-DKR-ABV-KRT-DAM-IKA route.

Fully agreed. Never worked in the past, and the future will be the same, but with a new member who enters for the window, violating the very same statutes of the organisation...is just a political circus with ZERO benefit for the population of the country members...

And maybe new routes, but yes, probably nothing new service-wise.

Cheap Oil is making the difference here, plus the political position "against the Empire" and all that c**p.
I wouldn't be surprised if, in some weeks/months we see Chavez's government doing big announcements regarding the Argentinian Oil Company YPF, or even PLUNA, despite the financial aspects involved ( what is the problem?? The money just flows from the ground !!!! ). And the pragmatic Brazilian government ( and Companies like Embraer ), had not problem selling to the "friend Chavez" a few hundred of millions in new Jets.
Don't be surprised if all the Conviasa operation is used as a "political weapon" in the near future, almost everything works that way for this "leaders" like Chavez, is almost incredible, but true : they are majority in the continent : besides Chavez you have Correa, Morales, Mujica and Kirchner, all of them supposedly "against the Empire" and "working together"....I really feel sorry for the people who lives in those countries, but that's for another thread in Non Av ).

In any case, Conviasa has some hope of becoming a real airline, but that will depend strongly on the result of the presidential elections in Venezuela in a few months.

All the politics aside, an order of 6 E190 cannot be wrong. LH operates a lot of them, loves them by now as it seems, replaces the 735 by them, so any other airline cannot do terribly wrong, with or without the "Leader." The E190 is an effcient, quiet and reliable plane as far as I can say.

I was just thinking about that last night. Then this morning doing a little searching, it turns out that Conviasa is one of the companies interested in participating in the auction for PU's 7 CRJs (along with the routes):

"Hasta el momento, además de Sol, se interesaron por la subasta la venezolana Conviasa, la empresa de transporte urbano Cutcsa, capitales asiáticos y un grupo de exempleados de Pluna, que dicen contar con capitales privados."

http://elobservador.com.uy/noticia/2...de-pago-para-los-aviones-de-pluna/

Translation:

"Up to now, besides Sol, parties interested in the auction are Venezuela's Conviasa, Cutcsa (MVD bus company), Asian investors and a group of ex Pluna employees, who claim to have access to private financing"
