So how are you going to feel when its in the full BA colors?

This is going to be one good looking plane! I do however agree with the fellow member who wishes to see the Landor livery on it. The 777 really rocked it though!

Out of curiosity when was the last time BA introduced a new a/c type to its fleet ( I am NOT talking about another variant )

E-Jets in 2009 maybe?

If you're looking for mainline (not CityFlyer), presumably that would have been the 777s around sixteen years ago.

Looking forward to seeing what BA does with the interiors. Presumably will be four class but what will the configuration be? And what new innovations, quirks, differences are to be introduced?

So just the VS jets to come (from Europe) after this?

Hmmm... not that BA isn't already carrying the elegance it serves but yes, I agree... BA's 380 will revive their existing livery due to the shear size of the aircraft-- sometimes things are appreciated in their bigger form.

The BA A380 is gonna be a special ride, I don't think it will be anything outlandish or gawdy interior-wise, but I reckon there will definately be some exciting differences too.

BA will keep it toned-down and understated as always, it'll be a very classy ride.

Can't wait!!!

It's weird but on occasion from the departure lounge I have seen an A380 trundle past Terminal 5 and compared to a 747-400 there doesn't seem to be alot in it.

However, I am sure this is just illusionary and due to the A380's stocky nature.

This is the first A380-800 IGW version AFAIK. I wonder if this will require some extra testing compared to other A380 models.

IGW = Increased Gross Weight

BA is the launch customer for this version.

The new version features a 4t increase in maximum take-off weight to 573t and an additional 190km (100nm) range that will enable it to fly distances of 15,360km on MTOW-limited missions. Maximum landing weight and maximum zero fuel weight have also each increased by 2t, and structural payload capability rises by 1.5t on MZFW-limited missions.
Children should only be allowed on aircraft if 1. Muzzled and heavily sedated 2. Go as freight

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I imagine some extra testing will be need to ensure that the aircraft can handle well under these increased conditions and that it does in fact fall within these specifications.

I can't see BA using the aircraft on any routes requiring the extra range but I imagine the extra payload capacity is the main attraction here, enabling increased cargo capacity.

They also took the first B777-200IGW (G-VIIA) as well, Boeing was NOT calling it the ' ER but old habits don't die and that's exactly what it became! Seeing a B744 next to the A380, I think the B744 looks tiny. It's more the A388 is massive!

Hi All,

Couple of questions.

1) Why are all tails painted on new aircraft prior to the full paint job?
2) What routes do we expect this beauty to fly?

Thanks

As far as I know that's because the flight testing of every airframe is done much earlier than painting, but the mass of the paint on the tailfin gives better performance characteristics, due to shift of CG or so.
For what it's worth: My personal believe is that it has a lot to do with the "look at me, I own an A380" -factor. How would any not-nutter know what airline the bird belongs to if it weren't for the unmistakable logo on the tail..

The rudder needs to balanced before it's installed, to be balanced correctly it needs to be painted first.

They need to check the rudder is properly in balance and this must be done with the weight of the paint already in play. As to where they're going to fly, there's a dozen or so threads on that very subject. I remember they did announce JFK which surprised a lot on here.

Have to agree. I never liked that Landor scheme, which was basically a warmed-over version of the '70's Negus & Negus one. The current BA livery is very smart and their best one so far, IMHO.

Yes it would appear dated now.

I tell you what though the tail was the best bit and they could have incorporated that into the new livery quite easily after the Utopia fiasco.

Even I shudder and wonder what the hell they were thinking with Utopia.

(well i know what they were thinking and it was naive by even my standards)
