Lufthansa Retrofitted A-340's With New First

Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:21 pm

According to the following link - http://lh-taufnamen.de/lufthansa - very few A-340 were retroffited with LH new First class product. It seems that after several months, the number of the reffited aircraft are the same. Questions - how long it takes to replace a first class cabin (seats, pannels, walls, carpets, etc) on a single aircraft? Anyone knows if LH plans to refurbinish their complete fleet with the new F product? Also, is it possible to know if the refurbishined arcraft are assigned to a particular market or based in FRA or MUC? Any news about the rumor of some of the 340-600 machines possibly being transferred to SWISS? Thank you, obrigado!

Lufthansa Retrofitted A-340's With New First

Mon Aug 06, 2012 5:11 am

Oi,
first of all - seja bemvindo on this site

All the retrofitted Airbus 340s (-300 and -600) are MUC based. FRA gets the new F-seats only in about 10 744s and of course in the 380s and in the lone (soon 2) 748.
By the looks of it (flightradar24.com) the MUC-GRU flights mostly get served by the 343s that already have the new F seats installed.
No idea how the long it takes to refurbish the planes with the new F class.
Seems as if LH is gonna eliminate F on the majority of 340s (FRA based planes) from 2013...

Hope this helps.

LH has retrofitted 7 (out of 14) MUC based 340-600s and 5 MUC based (out of 10) 340-300s. The rumor is that retrofitting will start again when the winter season starts in October/November.

4 out the 330s based at MUC also have new First, and three of them also have the new business product.

None of the 340s or 330s at FRA or the 340s at DUS have new First.

FRA has 11 747-400 with the excellent seat and bed First class, and new normal First on the 747-800 and the 380s. 16 747-400s will have new First at the end of the 2012.

Rumors say, that the 340s, 330s and 747-400s that will not get new First (or be retired), will be retrofitted into two class aircraft.

I recall having read in the FAZ months ago that Lufthansa then had planne to remove F but at the same time introduce on the resp. aircraft a new Premium Eco cabin with more comfortable seating than the usual Eco seating. So, there will still a kind of three class configuration. I do not recall whether there is going to be any four class airplanes.

There are plans to remove F class from the old 340s and 744s, but it has not been confirmed yet.
Same with the Premium Economy class. It looks like passengers want to have that option, but here as well: not confirmed and still to be decided.
As well as the configuration, it is not decided if 3 class, 2 class or even 4 class configuration. There are still people out there calculating

From what I heard, all A340-600 will get the new first and are ultimately to be stationed in MUC. The A340-300's will be transferred to FRA with some of them having the new F (I'm not sure if they will keep them or all will be refitted into C and Y only). All A330-300 to be stationed in MUC will also have the new F and I would think the same goes for A330's stationed in FRA.
I don't have any official sources but from what I understand the plan is for MUC to only have A340-600's (all in the fleet) and A330-300's while FRA will have the full range except for A340-600's.

Thank you all for the information. Based on that, it seems all the A-340-300s operating from MUC to GRU were retrofitted with the new First. Nice to know LH is rotating the aircraft with new configuration to GRU. Hope they complete to install their new First on the other 340 birds soon. And maybe, a new Business with fully-flat seats, to alligned with LX product.

Why the focus on MUC? Wouldn't you want your new product in your larger, more competitive hub?

I was also about to ask that. IMO the most urgent task is the c-class. Certainly now that LX and SN propose a much better and improved seat within the group.

I guess they know better than us

From what I've heard, MUC has a larger premium demand than FRA, especially in the number of HON's travelling from MUC. That's why all MUC based planes will retain the F class while only about half of the FRA planes will have it.

LH's 744 serving EZE from FRA have the new F class: For such a long flight - took it a few days ago - extremely tempting for an upgrade by using miles - or SEN vouchers.

I have never been fond of F class' extra costs, but if the F-class is so much better - as I experienced - it certainly is worth the miles-payment.

LH should refrain from stepping away from F class for flights over +9 hours in my opinion - for flights less than 9 hours, you can´t even use the luxurious extra bed LH offers now on the EZE run.

The new LH C class´criteria I read in many places is so low, that I am probably going to fly specifically with LH "old C", or other *alliance carriers. Thus, again back to F class, if it is so good, payment is worth for good....
