UA To Fly IAD-EGE

Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:16 pm

It looks like United's midwest expansion keep going. From December 22nd, UA is starting IAD-EGE. Anybody have any info on the aircraft type and frequency/timetables?

The original poster is correct, IAD-EGE starts seasonally Saturday only December 22 and looks to run through March or early April (Ski season):

UA Route Flight# Dep-Arr Equip.
IAD-EGE 1289 1225-1434 737
EGE-IAD 1289 1520-1846 737

Thanks for the info! I'm a bit surprised they didn't use something bigger, but then again, the 757s are quite busy nowadays!

It's IAH-EGE..

In otherwords, it's not an expansion at all, just the restart of seasonal service that has been regularly offered in previous years.

To my knowledge, EWR-EGE has been offered -- but *not* IAD-EGE.

Possibly you're thinking of IAD-COS.

Well, here's to hoping that there isn't too much of this global warming/climate change so that there will be a lot of snow there next season, and there will be reason to fly there.

Last season, besides DEN, I believe that EGE had n/s service to all three NYC airports, LGA (Sat) EWR and JFK, and then to ORD, and then ATL, IAH, DFW, along with LAX and MIA. And a few years ago when I was up in Vail, almost everyone that I met seemed to be from the Miami area, so MIA seems a pretty good fit.

I also believe that EGE had n/s to SLC and MSP in the past, correct?

Now with IAD in the mix, these long and thins with EGE will most likely go as the snow falls......

They're sure not going to lose any money on that route - I just made a .bomb dummy booking and it rings up at $643. F was quoted at over $1700. Granted, there's always the bit about what price actually sells, but it is EGE.

Ok so I wasn't born in the US, but I thought IAD was in the East and EGE was in the west. Where's the midwest part?
I want to live in an old and converted 727...

He might have meant "middle-west" (not really considered a seperate entity) which would be places like CO, UT, ID, etc. As opposed to the midwest which is NE, OH, IL, IN, ND, SD etc.

That was my mistake--I was going off of the presumption that the OP had made an error and said IAD when they meant IAH.

Shocked that they don't plop a 757 on that route--but that seems to be par for the course for United--I've seen them schedule A320s on ORD-EGE. How does the 737 perform at EGE compared to the 757?

737-700 currently being operated on the EGE-EWR route. It works, but it will not operate with a full pax load at any time. Unless it stops in DEN........which it has done a few occassions to accomodate all EGE traffic.

Yeah,I probably should have used a different word to describe it.

Yeah it was just a misprint meant to refer to Mountain West or similar - as mentioned EGE is clearly not Midwest.

Do we need a contraction or acronym for the mountain west (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming)? Would "MoWest" be understood by anyone? "MonWest?"

I know this is getting off the topic, but I'd like to hear suggestions...

Maybe we should go by its time zone. Easier to remember MST and PDT apart from each other.

This route would either need to be flown by the 737-700 or 757-200. Since its listed as a 737 on here im gonna assume its a 700. Saturday tends to be a very large day for arrivals and departures so the saturday only should be totally fine.

I have not heard this flight is revenue guranteed or not from vail resorts. I would think since its saturday only it might not be. Its just a large day and good place to use the planes. They probably got a nice offer from the airport though to add a new city though with some reduced fees and figured its a good spot to use a plane on a saturday and the EWR flights fill on o&d alone on saturdays so IAD can help to take more connecting passengers and northern virginia/dc has alot of skiiers who might pay a premium for a non-stop to save some time

I looked it up. It gets into IAD at 2046, so a duration of 3:26.

Not apologizing at all. I find there are a number of things that I don't know about how things are labeled and discussed in the US. I was born a US citizen, just not in the physical country. Been here since I was 12 yet I still find things with which I am unfamiliar.

I have felt the same feeling before, both here in America, and when I've travelled to other parts of the world, I hope it has been a good experience for you, as I have enjoyed.

Does this flight have well timed connections for the GRU flight? I ask because on a flight from ORD-ASE on UA, there were a bunch of S. Americans that had connected from the GRU flight...
