Frontier Starts Service To GSO

Tue Aug 07, 2012 6:57 pm

Apparently greensboro to orlando starting Nov 7. Directly competing with Allegiant will be interesting. However, it is twice per week and Allegiant is twice per week and it is an extremely underserved route, so who knows.

Charlotte is overserved for its size, and has nearly Southwest/Airtran and Jetblue. And if Orlando was profitable going up against US Airways, then Southwest/Airtran wouldn't be cutting it.

I agree. But - it's worked for them at ABE, which doubles service this winter - 2 x weekly to 4 x weekly.

I have a feeling that US Airways or Delta will do their best to make this extremely unprofitable for Frontier.
I am not sure what Frontier is up to, but at least they are trying new routes.

I would like to see them at RDU again.
Older than I just was ,and younger than I will soo be.

It looks like the GSO-MCO start date is November 17 not the 7th

I'd guess Frontier's competitor would be pax foregoing flying to drive. While it's 10 hours, it maybe cheaper for a family to rent a car and drive the route. Even if DL priced it $100 one-way on a GSO-ATL-MCO route, with the bag fees, connections and everything, for a family of 3 or 4, it'd seem not much worth it to fly 1 stop for MCO.

Maybe US would be more protective and with it's GSO-CLT-MCO is shorter in duration, easier on transit than GSO-ATL-MCO, it'd impact F9 more.

Also, isn't it three per week, not two?

MCO-GSO 8:30 a.m. 10:05 a.m. Mon/Sat A319
MCO-GSO 8:00 a.m. 9:35 a.m. Wed A319

According to the article and what I read in the F9 #36 thread it is three a week. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

If youre talking about MCO, I dont see DL post BK flying GSO-MCO just to hurt F9 3x weekly flights. Maybe back in 2005 or 2006 but not now.

Good news ! now hopefully people will fly it ... and maybe DEN will be added next ...
GSO can support both G4 anf F9 i think ... CLT & RDU can have WN

Cant wait to see what animals come through here! Only time ive ever seen a F9 plane in person was when at Gravelly Point at DCA

They've been staying away from the larger airports lately, and picking up incentive money where ever they can.

I think a DEN-GSO route would be successful, they seem to be moving away from routes where there is tremendous competition from UA and WN.

In the case of SBN-DEN. They got incentives to start SBN-DEN. United used to serve this route post-deregulation with a B727. I feel the F9 went with full sized Airbus A319's on the route instead of E190's in the SCASD grant to negate the United mainline pilot scope clause reference Republic flying E170's for UA and E190's for F9. This would force United to fly Skywest CRJ700's on the route if they wanted to compete which they couldn't against F9''s more comfortable planes and lower fares. UA would also never throw mainline on such a route again cause it would be a losing proposition. F9 is also starting this route on two big Notre Dame Football weekends which should be very profitable for them.

Did Delta and US Airways react much when Allegiant started GSO-SFB?

When GSO-SFB was started, Delta canceled there 3x daily to Orlando (when they stopped RJ service there). Delta and US Airways reacted when Indy Air did Orlando/Tampa 2x daily. But Allegiant has been left alone.

Something else I notice is that Allegiant and Frontier are doing it different days.

Frontier:
Mon/Wed/Sat

Allegiant:
Sun/Thurs

It will probably work well.

Should be a good shoe in as G4's SFB is doing very well....
This is very good news for GSO....the route should do just fine....
Who's ground handling the flight?

When would they announce GSO-DEN service...are they waiting to see how Orlando does first or are the rumors true that they would add Denver soon. I wonder who will ground handle then and which gate they will use. Anyone know?
