Thu Aug 09, 2012 6:35 pm

I don't think any are at DL. Remember these MD-90s have a glass cockpit that differs from other MD-90s. In April they sold 25 to AerSale, a Florida based lessor.

Nope. DL hasn't signed for any of these so far. As noted they have a different cockpit and would be harder to integrate into the fleet.

DL has brought in MD-90s from SAS (previously operating with various lessees), China Southern, China Eastern, and JAL.

However, now that DL will soon be operating the 717 (which has a similar cockpit), I wonder why DL hasn't signed on the Saudia MD-90s yet.

One has nothing to do with the other. The MD90 and 717 programs are currently two separate categories at DL and will remain as such.

Word is every airworthy ex-Saudi MD-90 will be ferried to ROW. There they will be prepped for presentation/demo to prospective clients. No doubt DL will be solicited but not before at least 15 frames are in ROW and ready to go.

Per another thread, some fellow a.netters indicated the overhead panel of the 717 differed too much from the Saudi MD-90. This is surprising to me, as I can say with absolute certainty that the MD-95 flightdeck was going to be designed for same category as the "glass" MD-90, which was the original MD-90 flightdeck concept. Perhaps Boeing made some changes with the 717 so that it would more resemble the MD-11.

Before anyone complains, these two are obviously ex-Lion Airlines and I must have unintentionally copied them as well, my apologies:

I believe HZ-APF is still in service (or was within the last month) on VIP flights.

As metioned by others, they are with AerSale now. Here is the original a.net thread when they first appeared in ROW. A lot of good info:

Stored for years? I think you read wrong. But yes, not all 25 acquired by AerSale will see active service again.
