AA 1549 Emergency At MIA

Don't know what the issue is just yet. Fire/Rescue awaiting arrival.

All clear. Pilots had indication that there was an issue with the landing gear while en route to DFW so they chose to divert to MIA to have it checked out. The flight will continue on to DFW soon.

Alright, I guess I have to be the first to say it..... REALLY? Flight 1549? Wow that's ironic. Especially if AA/US merge.

Glad everybody is OK. Could have been a lot worse.

I'm just curious - what was the rationale for diverting to MIA instead of continuing to DFW?

Warning, speculation:
MIA was both closer and an AA base. Also, a problem with the gear could mean a problem with the hydraulics, which would affect other systems, as in the case of LOT 16. Diverting to MIA meant the issue could be dealt with sooner rather than later.

However, this poses a question: what was the issue with the gear?

Problem was a Center hydraulic system failure, not a landing gear problem.
