Qatar Airways To Warsaw And Belgrade In Nov-Dec

Wed Aug 15, 2012 9:41 am

Services to the previously announced destination of Belgrade, capital of Serbia, have been confirmed for a November 20 start with a thrice-weekly schedule via Ankara.

Two weeks later, beginning December 5, the airline will add the Polish capital Warsaw to its rapidly-growing European network operating flights four-times-a-week.

A perfect destination to be in partners with QF with.... Hope the rumoured QR / QF partnership goes through over the QF EK one.

I think QR seems to be on a winning strategy serving these smaller cities with A320s. When the new Doha airport opens and they continue adding destinations and capacity they will certainly have a most impressive hub!

Great news for WAW - they got EK and now QR. EK will operate on A330 though so they will have capacity advantage.
Probably good loads to Australia and SE Asia for both carriers.

Welcome news for BEG - QR is far superior to the "pay it all" that FZ is offering at present with a hideous Terminal 2 arrival in DXB. This FZ-EK collaboration in my opinion does not and will not work, two drastically different products simply kill-off each other - one a full service - premium airline, the other an LCC (albeit better than Ryanair) arriving at the 4th world airport terminal (DXB Terminal 2)    ....

QR should do better to Australia, Asia and South Africa with its own metal (vs FZ-EK offer now), though the ESB stop does errode some of the appeal - 2 stops.

Perhaps EY will be next to take the plunge with its own, direct A319 flights to BEG and offering one-stop (AUH) flights between BEG and South Africa, Asia and Australia....

In either case, welcome Qatari 462!

Warsaw, "one of the oldest cities of Europe" ?!

The FZ+EK combination in Belgrade is offered at the price of EK on all segments. FZ doubled its prices in one year and enjoys monopoly. No news on JU restarting DXB.

I suggest the thread to be renamed "to Warsaw and Belgrade" or "to Poland and Serbia". "Warsaw and Serbia" makes no sense, Serbia is not a city.

"I think QR seems to be on a winning strategy serving these smaller cities with A320s."

I don't know more than a couple of cities in Australia to which those two cities can be considered "smaller".

Will QR eventually operate to BEG without the stop in Ankara given that they don't have fifth freedom rights for flights between Turkey and Serbia?

And JU won't restart DXB while newer planes don't arrive. There was a plan right before elections in Serbia (typical pre-election stuff that never amounts to anything) that JU was going to lease a pair of 738s and restart BEG-DXB but the govt didn't give them the money for the 8-year lease contract so nothing ever materialised. It's proof, however, that JU may still have wishes in the long term for DXB for the sake of transfer diaspora pax coming from the east and Australia.

WROORD- yes, a lot of the pax going to WAW may very well be coming from Australia and SE Asia as in the case with Belgrade.

Joker-I wish you could be right about EY. They would for sure have both an advantage over QR (because of the technical stop) and FZ because of timing logistics for transfers. Ajmo arapci bogatasi, dodjite u Srbiju da nam olaksas putovanje!

In smaller markets they usually start with the stop over. I think their SOF service has a stop over as well.

Surprised however that ESB has been reduced from daily to thrice weekly...very surprising. I wonder what happened on that route, where they driven out by TK? Actually it is the same plane that will be operating the two routes cause WAW flies those days when BEG/ESB doesn't...

Indeed, and they have local rights on that 1 stop sector interestingly...

How are the QR A320s reconfigs going? What is the total fleet and how many have PTVs now? Do they all feature the same business class seats?

I think QR seems to be on a winning heading opening up these smaller routes. It will be interesting to see how the new airport opening in December impact their growth.

I think that the last A320 is scheduled to be upgraded some time in 2013. Not sure if they will upgrade other types or wait for replacement 787s or 350s.

I would poop in my pants if I ever saw a pic of a Qatar 787 in BEG. That would be too awesome. Although since WAW doesn't have the stopover its very plausible for them to get the occasional widebody.

Welcome to east europe, gulf carriers!

Nice! QR is doing well in central & eastern Europe. They've even up-gauged their BUD/ZAG service to a A321 for August and September as higher than usual demand is expected.
