DEN To Announce Y4(?) Service

Wed Aug 15, 2012 11:17 pm

Tomorrow, DEN officials will announce a new international airline.

Officials won't confirm the airline, but Y4 CEO Enrique Beltranena will be present, according to the press release.

Y4 won approval to begin MEX-DEN a couple of months ago.

Also, MEX-SFO was applied for as well, and approval granted at the same time as DEN as well for Y4.

Another new low fare carrier arrives at DEN?

Yes Volaris applied for Denver service a couple months ago, and Denver has offered them a 2-year an incentive program as well to launch a year-round Mexico City link.

With their codeshare agreement with Southwest, DEN makes a lot of sense considering Southwest's operations there. It makes you wonder what city (or cities) they may look to in the US for further expansion and cooperation with WN.

Thanks for that.... and it seemed my memory served me pretty well here without having to find this thread......

Hopefully yes...... and congrats to both DEN and Y4...... if this is going to be it..... strange that they wouldn't confirm the airline, but the CEO of the airline will be in attendance, eh?

This is great news for both DEN and Y4.

This will be better than the seasonal AM flight, with this being year round service.

Here's another link on the matter:

I'm loving the added international flights at DEN. First FI to KEF, then the announcement of UA to NRT, now Y4 to MEX. It has definitely been a good year for DEN.

That codeshare is completely worthless. Try buying a ticket on both carriers and you'll understand why.

As soon as read "codeshare" I wondered how they (WN) could pull that off since they can't seem to figure out how to codeshare with FL over a year after the merger. So it doesn't surprise me that a "codeshare" with Y4 would be a challenge.

WN needs a new reservation system in order to implement something that is worth calling a codeshare.

They can't do virtual nesting with their current reservation system. It just brings the best available rate at the time of booking for each segment and adds them up to give you the final price.

$838 for one of the worst MEXNYC routings money can buy. And you only have to checkin twice and keep track of two tickets. What a deal! Or you can fly nonstop for $300 less

How successful was the WN codeshare with ATA six or so years ago?

Y4 982 MEX 12:15pm- 3:05pm DEN ( Saturday, Sunday)

Hmmmmmm...

2x weekly, and on the weekends yet?

I guess that they're pretty much going for the leisure crowd, I don't know Y4 well enough to know if they go after a lot of the business crowd or not, but this scheduling certainly looks as if they don't....?

And with UA and AM still in the picture, even with their less than weekly, erratic seasonal schedules, I guess DEN-MEX will have n/s service for the most part.

MX did a daily, just-about-every-day-of-the-year flight for about 10+ years here and I guess found a way to make this route work. And prior to the swine flu epidemic, and I guess when oil was cheap, they did so with probably a load factor of about 60%-70%, which today just wouldn't cut the mustard, eh?

At any rate, it's good that DEN gets a new international carrier, and all the best to Y4 in making this route work. And maybe someday soon, DEN-MEX can actually have enough pax (that also pay enough) to have a bit more in consistency of service.....
