Why were they blacklisted from the EU?

Hmm, if they will discontinue the Gulf routes as well there won't be much left in their network.

According to airfleets, both B747SP were built in 1976, but have not flown since 2007.

After nearly 5 years in storage, being 30 years old, and of a varient with less than 50 built, (and even fewer still flyable) I see little prospect of them flying again.

Such a pity.

Not correct. Both were ferried from DAM to RUH in late 2010 for maintenance prior return to service, but unfortunately that never happened, both are still stored in RUH since. By the way, this topic is about their current network and fleet, which are 6 A320's, 2 ATR72's and one Tu134.

Looking at ACARS data for the last 7 days, they at least still seem to be operating to ALG, AUH, CAI, DMM, DOH, DXB, FRA, IKA, KWI, RUH, VKO.

Not sure how FRA could be served since the EU added RB to the embargo list in late July.

I do not know either but have been monitoring it as I was writing about it on ch-aviation and then got complaints that I was wrong and they have been in FRA several times since then. The last time they have been there on the 11th with YK-AKB:
http://www.flightradar24.com/data/airplanes/yk-akb.

However, just checking it again, flights have now disappeared from Amadeus and were previously still showing up as once or twice weekly. So I guess that was the last flight on August 11 to the European Union given they had already dropped all other destinations before.

How can they be blacklisted if YK-AKB arrived at FRA from Damascus via Paris Orly today?

SYR408 from FRA to DAM is visible on flightradar24, just entering bulgarian airspace.

I hear what you are saying, but according to this article and various other sources on a google search, Syrian Air is indeed blacklisted from flying to the EU. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I think it is not actually blacklisted from flying to the European Union but most probably more had assets frozen etc.

They at least can fly to Tehran, Beirut and Moscow. I think Aleppo airport though is presently closed.

Is the code share flight to Caracas with Iran Air still operating?

Do they still have a wet/damp leased A320? Could they have used this for some of the EU flights to get around the ban?

Currently temporarily suspended with the next flight scheduled for September 8.

Iran Air do not serve CCS nor do Conviasa IKA, the two also ended their code share agreement. As for DAM Conviasa were flying a 767 as CCS-MAD-DAM prior to suspension.

Yeah just like Libyan Arab Airlines after Gaddafi. From a big network they now fly to like 10 cities half of which are in Libya since its pushing daisies over there.

The reintroduction of services was no doubt hampered by the destruction of some aircraft during the heavy fighting at Tripoli Airport - and so as long as the Syrian planes are kept safe it should be less difficult for them to resume normal service as and when stability returns [and lets hope for the sake of the Syrian people that won't be too long] - as long as they can convince other countries that their airport security is up to scratch.

Also don't forget Afriqyah Airways which are currently advertising a number of international destinations from Tripoli - admittedly mainly west and central Africa plus London and Jo'burg.
