KLM Fokker 100 Last Routes

Mon Aug 20, 2012 1:00 am

I see that the remaining F100s seem to be covering for F70s nowadays, but is there any route that one can book an F100 flight and er..... actually get one?

No, everything is scheduled by F70 or E90, they are only used as back-ups.

When AA and US got them- they thought the would be great planes. One of the biggest issues they
faced was the bladder tanks. They got rid of them really quickly. BN2 ordered them also, and switched
to A320's . Such potential!

Before we go any farther what are bladder tanks and why were they a problem? There's been lots a discussion about the F100 on this forum but I don't recall bladder tanks ever being mentioned.

Unless you insist on KLM, you can fly Helvetica's F100 on ZRH-PRG for example.

I flew MUC-AMS two weeks ago, which was scheduled being a E90, but about week in advance it changed to F100 (PH-OFO). So when an OP is willing to pay a premium price he can book his flight only a few days in advance and be quite sure he flies the F100?

Helvetic also flies from Bristol/Cardiff to Zurich. Another garunteed F100 option. The fares are reasonable too.

The F100s are only their as back-up for an F70 or E190 going tech.

They are used all over the KLC network so flying on one of them is just luck.

I personally flew -OFP, OFM en -OFN in the last 2 months.

Did AF retire theirs ? I flew on them several times (which is something since I don't fly much and have never set foot on a 737 for example) PAR-BES. If I had to try a plane I would like the opposite of you, the F70 !

I saw that AF "gave" their F100 to KLM apparently, but since KLM has only a few active ones I guess it was for parts.

I'd also like to try the F50 and I see that Cityjet still has a healthy fleet of those.

Do you know if it is possible to book only the Cardiff-Bristol segment? That would be a unique flight! I am guessing it is less than 20 minutes.

No it isn't.

And with that said, the Cardiff tag on is being removed later this year and the flight will operate to/from BRS exclusively.

As I understand it, a bladder tank can source either potable or non-potable water or can store grey water.

Not KLM for sure but what about OS / Tyrolean?. You can see them daily at FRA to SZG some flights to VIE, too. Both very nice destinations

It doesn't have to be in days advance, this flight changed from E190 to F100 just some hours before departure from AMS :/

I flew KLM's F100 on the AMS-FRA leg.... shaking on my legs due the F100 very bad reputation in Brazil due to TAM's several crashes/accidents/incidents....

In what way was that the fault of the design?

Tyrolean Airways now exclusively operates on the VIE-AMS-VIE route on behalf of Austrian Airlines (unless they get REALLY desperate for bigger planes), and they generally send the 100. A few times a week it may be a F70 but it's your safest bet to get one out of AMS!

Bladder, Integrated or no center wing tank at all.

From an Sfar88 point of view with today's knowledge it is even the best choice.

What are the plans for their F70s? Will they start retiring soon too or are they around for a while to come?

It was mechanical failure, there was an uncommanded reverse thrust while on air and thus losing power, stalled, yawed to the right and struck a building, and others were TAM's own mistakes (officially 7 involving F100) but of course TAM is not going to blame themselves but someone else! Because of that Avianca-Brasil (while it was called Oceanair) had to call its F100, MK-27 on its website to avoid fear...

At least you can still visit the retired KL F100 that's now on display on the excellent observation deck at AMS. It was originally delivered to Canadian Airlines' YUL-based regional partner Inter-Canadien in 1989.

It was an mechanical failure indeed but one that should not have led to an accident if handeld properly by the crew

You make it sound like they are all pretty much gone where infect the opposite is true.
