Any New Entrants For Fort McMurray (YMM) In Canada?

Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:26 am

Quick info, Fort McMurray is located in Northern Alberta (about 400km north of Edmonton) and is the base for the Canadian Oilsands.

Currently the terminal is 2300 m2 with a new facility being built. New facility will be 14,000 m2.

Passengers movement went from 220,000 (2004) to 700,000 (2009), and with the amount of time Ive spent sitting on the floor of the airport terminal, probably over 1,000,000 now.

Right now only Air Canada and Westjet offer any reliable air service (handful of small private outfits and oil companies also come and go) with direct service to YEG, YYC, YYZ, YVR, and YYT.

Questions for all you experts =)

Do you see any new destinations being offered out of YMM?

New airlines entering the YMM market?

Westjet regional comes to mind with the smaller Q400's, new destinations offered when this is operational in 2013?

More frequency being offered out of YMM to established destinations?

How are the load factors in and out of YMM?

Cheers! =)

I keep hearing one of the charter airlines wants to provide a non-stop service somewhere down south (VRA/CUN/PUJ or POP?), but nothing but a rumor I'd say.

Not a clue. Glad to hear they are getting air service to Mexico.
