TAM To Launch GIG-LIM

Tue Aug 21, 2012 12:10 pm

After being allocated a new set of Brazil-Peru frequencies on the beginning of August, TAM has set the date to start its GIG-LIM service on 31/10/2012:

JJ8060 320 --3-5-7 GIG 0745 LIM 1030
JJ8061 320 --3-5-7 LIM 1255 GIG 2110

Finally!!! Thanks for posting C010T3! I know a lot of people thought that this route would never happen, well I guess they will be happy now!

Such low frequency... 3x weekly seems very weak. The schedule is good for connections at GIG though. Perhaps LP will fly the other 4. Who knows.

Finally !

With Latam plans to further develop their GIG hub, it makes sense to have this flight. Now Latam will have even a superior timing than Taca which lose the chance to launch a 2nd daily (in my view there's room for an afternoon flight).

Now the question is if LP will run a 4x weekly LIM-GIG to complement or if they will even launch a LIM-GIG-Europe flight.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

It's highly likely since this flight only connects with the first bank of international departures from LIM. Either TAM or LAN will have to operate a second flight that arrives into LIM at night and departs LIM around 1:10AM to offer connections from the second bank of international flights at LIM. Earlier, LP loaded 4 additional B763 operated flights on the LIM-GRU route, but quickly pulled them as soon as TAM upgauged the equipment on the GRU-LIM route to the A332. So we'll see...

I would not be surprised if LP launches a flight LIM-GIG-LHR or LIM-GIG-MAD. In the other hand, the early night GIG-LIM could allow LIM to enhance their connections to LAX , SFO and MEX.
Does LP flies LIM-MEX ? I can see Latam deciding to transfer the current GRU-MEX service to the hands of LP thru LIM.

LP's flight to MEX departs LIM at 13:05, LP's flight to CUN departs at 12:25, LP increases frequency on the first flight to LAX to 6x weekly when TAM launches this service. The first flight to LAX departs at 12:55.

LP will not operate to Europe via Brazil, but LA will operate to Europe via Brazil...

Finally some competition for TACA!

Quoting AF086 (Reply 2):

The LIM-GIG is good for departures later than 22:30 at GIG.
GIG-LIM, on the other hand, will have to focus on connections on LIM end.

The only possible connections onboard GIG-LIM will be JFK, LHR (only on days 3, 5), FRA (only on day 7), SSA, FOR, NAT, BEL and JPA, which are not most important markets from Brazil to LIM.

Are we consulting the same winter timetable?

Considering the following:

JJ8060 320 --3-5-7 GIG 0745 LIM 1030

The can get pax from:

JJ8055 - CDG - ETA 0455 - -234-67
JJ8079 - JFK - ETA 0529 - 12-45-7
JJ8069 - FRA - ETA 0547 - -23-5-7

It's already pretty decent.

I'm talking about domestic Brazilians flights connecting to LIM considering TAM network on winter season.

A JFK-GIG-MIA or CDG-GIG-LIM connection twice a week?! Good that LATAM won't need that low yield passenger to have good LF/RASM on this flight.
Those passengers already have options through MAD, AMS, CDG, GRU, BOG, PTY and MIA.

LAN will soon offer LIM pax even more flights to JFK and offers a daily connection between FRA and LIM via MAD on LAN metal:

LA2706 LIM 18:55 MAD 13:50+1 B763
LA0704 MAD 15:15 FRA 18:05 A343

LA0705 FRA 19:30 MAD 22:20 A343
LA2707 MAD 00:35+1 LIM 05:45 B763

Can't see anyone connecting at GIG between JFK and LIM. It's twice as far as a nonstop or connection via MIA etc. And from Europe it's about 1500 miles further than more direct routes. Would mean very poor yield as you would have to offer low fares (lower than to GIG itself) to convince anyone to use such roundabout routings.

Thanks. So it would make sense if Latam decides to run LIM-MEX 2x weekly taking advantage of the Lima's geographic position.

LA code-shares with AM on both the SCL-MEX and LIM-MEX routes. LP will increase frequency on the LIM-MEX route from 6x weekly to a daily service with the B763 next month and code-shares with AM on one of their daily LIM-MEX services. But since AM is increasing frequency on the LIM-MEX route to 2x daily; LAN may feel the need to further increase frequency on the LIM-MEX route...

Well, LATAM's CFO stated the following recently:

Quote:

" Interconnecting hubs, bringing more passengers from the short haul to long haul.... ...we will bring some more passengers from Argentina, Peru and Chile to our Rio hub to strenghten our long haul operations there "

Looks like LATAM is condering connecting traffic to/from LIM as an option for their longhaul flights from GIG. Hence that schedule that fits TAM's longhaul departure and arrival banks at GIG.

LAN decided to create a hub at LIM over 14 years ago in order to expand LAN's operations; which at that time was focused mainly in Chile. Now after combining with TAM to form LATAM Airlines Group S.A. LAN and TAM plan on operating more flights into LIM which will enable LAN to launch new routes to North America, Central America and the Caribbean from the LIM hub.

Could LP operate to GIG 4 times weekly with the 763 ? That would really set them apart from TACA.

LAN operates widebody a/c on certain routes that it competes directly with TA on, i.e. LIM-CCS, LIM-EZE, LIM-GRU, LIM-GYE, LIM-MEX, LIM-MIA, and LIM-SCL. Thus far, TA has reduced frequency on the LIM-GRU, LIM-GYE, LIM-MEX, and LIM-SCL routes. LAN will begin to transfer new B-767-316ERs over to LAN Perú starting next month.
