So the LAX routings will be something like IAH-DEN-NRT-LAX-PVG-LAX-NRT-DEN-IAH? This brings the plane into IAH once a week. I am assuming the 787 fleet is based out of Houston for now?

Sept 1 is the sale start date per United Daily. I'm gonna see if I can book something on the aircraft, that is if UA adds more frequency into and out of DEN other than what we see now. But we are only taking 5 of the airplane type this year so I am not holding my breath.

Quoting kaitak744 (Reply 4):

They will be based out of IAH indefinitely.

You would have a better chance of getting Boeing to bring one than UA sending one.

IAH-HKG...NO way. Not a big enough or lucrative market enough to tie up 2-3 airplanes with. IAH-ICN...possibly, I would rather and be more apt to see OZ run this one if it was run. Honestly...the only other Asian route I could see happening in any reasonable amount of time is NH starting IAH with 787.

The instant SFO gets loaded I'm listing for every flight every day until I get on.

What will they be doing with their first 787 from mid-September until Nov. 4... they should have 2-3 787s by then. How can ET but their 787 right into service on its delivery flight and UA needs all months and months to get used to it

That's awfully generous of UA to have IAH serve as the base for the 787 domestic familiarization flying, even if this is a carryover from CO. I thought Smisek was going to shove it to Mayor Parker and the city of Houston as part of his testosterone campaign.

Tongue-in-cheek of course, but MCO was used as part of the domestic familiarization flying for the then-new CO 762/764/777. I think that's where AVENSAB727 is coming from.

It looks like other than CLE and IAD which are special one day trips to UA hub cities, the cities that will be seeing the 787's regularly will be the cities that the 787 is planned to be used from in the near future. ORD, LAX, SFO, EWR, DEN and IAH will be those first cities that see 787 routes. I would have expected all of these cities, and a good way for both air and ground crews to get familiar with the beautiful new shiny aircraft UA has coming.

Some misguided posts here. This is not permanent domestic flying but simply the familiarization schedule. These are temporary routes during the process. They are trying to get the airplane even if one day to major hubs for the workers to see the product. The 787 aircraft will display for sale on these domestic routes on united.com and other distribution channels beginning Sept. 1.

Not IAH-DEN. You see starting the 31st of March the schedule is 'open'. That is gonna be permanent...at least for the forseable future until there will be more ways to route the 787 to DEN.

There's nothing showing up on this route for Nov 4, 5, 6, or 7.
Are these simply not loaded yet?

They will be loaded on Sept. 1st

There is, um, like a very, um, large Belgian population in Houston, and um, all 5 of those people could like really use these flights.

Don't forget about the 11 Houstonians who live in Brussels.......

To feed DEN-NRT no doubt.

Wow..... it's actually going to be happening, eh?

The DEN managers, as well as most of the business community in the area have been working probably 10+ years to get this flight....... I could see this as the biggest celebration at DEN since the opening of the airport.......

After so many years of saying no..... no.... no..... no.... no...... I guess that it didn't take UA long to say no to $22M..... although the pot for NH, the most likely carrier after UA's no, no, no, no, nos, I imagine was someplace up to about $5-$6M.

And after so much anticipation and effort....... and with only about 60 pax both ways O&D here, it'll be a stretch to make this work, but if the 30 or so buy the premium seats, and global economies improve somewhat.... well.... maybe there is a good chance this flight will survive long-term.....

Well, if they have flights from DEN-NRT and LAX-NRT and PVG, and no flight from IAH-NRT, then they HAVE TO have a flight from IAH to DEN or LAX. Otherwise there is no way for the plane to get there.

Quoting Splitterz (Thread starter):
IAH-DEN-IAH - March 31, 2013 - Open - Daily

As you can see, this route goes on indefinately, as so LAX-NRT, LAX-PVG, DEN-NRT, and IAH-Lagos

Quoting Splitterz (Thread starter):
IAH-LAX-IAH - Nov. 4 - Dec. 3 - 6x week
IAH-LAX-IAH - Dec. 4 - Jan. 3, 2013 - Daily
IAH-LAX-IAH - Jan. 3, 2013 - March 31, 2013 - Daily

It also seems that the positioning flight for the Asia routes will be done through LAX until March 31st, and then move to DEN after that. Makes sense since DEN-NRT starts on the 31st.
