Everts Air Cargo (Alaska) Any New A/C?

Recently I have been browsing through the many photos of this operator on this site, and notice that this carrier operates a variety of old 1940's, 1950's vintage planes. I've also seen some pictures of this carrier with DC-9s and EMB-120's as well. Since eventually the old 1950's vintage planes eventually need to be retired, what type of aircraft in today's market would be a suitable replacement for a DC-6 or C-46 replacement.

A few months ago, it was disclosed that Everts would be purchasing the first MD-80SF from conversion provider Aeronautical Engineers, Inc.

Everts has, since then, also added (or pulled from remote storage) more DC-9s, either as parts sources or as potential replacements for the props.

There are NO suitable replacements.
NAC tried to use the ATR, but it just didn't fit the needs of the carrier, and they got rid of it after just a couple years. It's still flying, in Europe I believe, in NAC's colors.

The DC-6 is a monster, the C-46, half a monster.
Because there are no real replacements with similar characteristics, the business model will have to change, IF these birds are to be done away with. NAC has converted to a fleet of 737-200s and 737-300s. Everts could do the same, but likely won't, if you ask me.
The MD-80s will be a good addition, but they cannot do the same things at the same airports as a C-46, that's for sure! They're designed for entirely different missions.
You can't park a tour bus in the same space as a Smart Car; no one ever intended you to. So if you're gonna start operating a tour bus, that's fine, but you're going to have to adjust your business accordingly.
I hope that poor metaphor helped explain my point!

you'd make a pretty good bus driver!

Sounds like the USAF may be getting rid of some (or all) of their CASA C-27J's. Could be a good replacement a/c for Everts.

Hardly. First, the C-27 isn't a CASA, but from Alenia. Secondly, with no civilian type certificate at all, there would be zero use for these aircraft for Everts. The best thing that Everts can do is keep maintaining what they've got now.
