Video Of EK 380 First Class

Fri Aug 31, 2012 3:00 am

For those (like me) who have only seen either stills or propaganda videos of EK's first class, here is a neat video of some guy's trip in first from boarding to landing, including a shower scene (G rated of course). Interesting to see the water allotment display in the shower so you don't have an excuse if you run out and are still all soapy...

Saw this the other day. Pretty impressive, especially for only $550

Considering the type of crew airlines like EK use in their promos, I would feel apprehensive applying thinking I would be rejected, but if you look at some in this video especially the Asian guy at the bar and his unprofessional hair style, it makes you wonder, how did they hire them?

it may be trivial, but I like the way he walks on almost unnoticed...You'd think someone would be standing at attention at the front door greeting all the first class passengers! and he almost gets run over too by that beautiful hostess! LOL

Such a shame that EK's F cabin is such a hideously garish nouveau riche middle eastern look. Plastic, fake gold everywhere, mini bar from a cheap hotel. Someone should tell them, "Less is more". I you need a drink, that's what service is for; they don't need to be on display like in a roadhouse fridge.

Scrap it all and start again!

I know EK has two Service assistants onboard who look after the showers. They are not trained crew and have minimal service duties, they get much less pay then cabin crew and do share accommodation downline. Anyone know where do they sit for takeoff and landing?

Pretty nice, but good lord, that horrible faux gold trim has got to go.

I agree, but they like that sort of garishness in the Gulf. Take a look at the hideous (to most western eyes) interior decor of their many palaces etc.

Garishness is part of most cultures dont just put it on the Middle East alone, the dedcors of European palaces used to be over the top and still as in many cases.

No, it's not the same. The tribes of the Gulf struck oil and in one or two generations became mega rich. When you get rich overnight (historically speaking) and come from a poorer, simpler background, you are what is known as 'nouveau riche' and your tastes and aesthetics usually don't have time to catch up with your money. The inside of Gulf palaces is the perfect example, so too, EK F. The 'garishness' of european palaces should be compared with the very ornate palaces and mosques of Arab culture at its peak in the middle ages, not the nouveau riche palaces of the 20th century.

Um, i take it you haven't visited many European palaces then?! The only non garish styles are the strictly neo-classical and greek revival schools. The interiors of Versailles are mind bogglingly vulgar and way over the top. It's just because it's old that it's revered. You think there's too much gold trim in the EK F cabin. Have you seen the interiors of some Roman Catholic churches??!

The difference is that the European palaces etc. you refer to were built centuries ago when that type of design was considered attractive. I was referring to palaces in the Gulf region that are very recent.

I flew EK First Class between AKL-AMS a year ago, with the AKL-SYD-DXB segment on the A380. So I got to experience it quite thoroughly. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I felt appropriate value for money. A few points, in no particular order:-

- yes, there is too much gold trim, and the "food/drink bar" has got to go. The drinks aren't even chilled, for heaven's sake.
- the seat needs a tertiary qualification in robotics to fully take advantage of it
- the HD IFE is better than any other airline
- the shower, which I was quite cynical about, is actually a very nice touch. Good pressure, and the bathroom of which it is a part is simply huge.
- The service was inconsistent, random, and poorly co-ordinated. I seemed to get served by a different nationality, with a different "style" every time, and no one had any idea of where I was "at" in terms of the sequence of service delivery. There was also very little in the way of intuition or emotional intelligence. On the DXB to AMS leg I found myself accepting food and alcohol just to get the FA off my back.

Overall the experience was worth it and I will do it again when and if I can justify the financial outlay.

The most striking thing to me was the size of the windows. When he opened the shade I expected a great view and what I got was a small window in a thick wall. Felt like an ancient castle wall. While I don't believe the windows are any smaller, they 'felt' small in both scenes where he filmed it.

The gold trim did not bother me a bit.

All true. You don't get that "reclining with a glass of wine in your hand watching the clouds roll by" experience. Can't really blame EK for this though. Are the widows any different on the lower deck?? - does anyone know??

werent these suites featured in Sex and the City 2, along with a very EK crew uniform replicated yet representing an airline of the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, wonder what the Dubai ones thought about that.

Cannot stand crew swooning over me and holding unecessary chat sessions, just smile, serve and move on types I like.
