Doha - Airport Opening, Delayed Again.

Fri Aug 31, 2012 7:24 am

The following article;

http://moodiereport.com/document.php?c_id=6&doc_id=32135

Indicates DOH will not open now until mid-2013 a further six months later then the revised opening of December 2012. The issues appears to be based around ' the airport operator parting ways with a key contractor'.

Akbar Al Baker stated some elements will open on time however.

“However, some NDIA facilities will open around the end of this year, including cargo, the VIP Terminal and the maintenance base for Qatar Airways,” he said. “And we have already started the operational readiness programme - the ORAT [Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer] has begun.”

Will Al Baker remain CEO of DOH as well as QR, as he currently is? Is there any other airlines who shares their CEO with their Hub airport? One of the many unique elements of Middle-Eastern aviation.

Surprised this is not in some way Boeing's and Airbus faults, they are the the only people who are apparently capable of delays on major projects.

I think the western media must have its dates mixed up, Al Baker could not be responsible for any delay.

Of course not, he can do no wrong. Everything is someone elses fault!

I wouldnt be surprised if this is more to do with government legislation ensuring all new buildings are fully tested and certified following the Villaggio Mall fire earlier this year.

I would hate to have been in Akbar Al Baker (CEO of New Doha International Airport)'s shoes when Akbar Al Baker (CEO of Qatar Airlines) hears about this. Someone will be getting an earfull.

HEEHEHEHHEHE

Even better.... People´s Viennaline owner is the owner of the home base of the Airline St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport

Maybe this delay will help QR to have a more progessive and smooth transition to the new Terminal because now it´s not going to be all in one day but progressive, so less things to mess up during the first days.
