A340-500 / 600

Tue Oct 17, 2000 5:24 am

Anyone know anything about the airlines or any purchase made for the Airbus 340-500 / Airbus 340-600, because now Airbus has both of the 500 / 600 out, and fly in longer range same as the 340-200 and different engines type.

I see that you just joined an hour ago so I suggest you use the search function. I for one know Air Canada has ordered the -500 and -600 but changed the -600, (or so I was told)

Ivo is right. But Swissair has ordered now 11 (not only 9) 340-600 and will order more. They have to replace 19 MD 11.

I hope Olympic Airways of Greece orders some of these aircraft with better powerful RR Trent 500 series engines and higher passenger capacity, to supplement or replace the lower capacity underpowered CFM56-5C4 powered A340-300s on the highly popular JFK to ATH route.

Actually, AC cancelled their A346 orders. No word on what they've replaced them with.

I hope for a 777. Got to think positive. Lets see some new wide bodies for all.

These were cancelled off the order and replaced with an equal number of A345's.

ZRH,

SR hasn't ordered any additional aircraft yet, they've simply signed a lease for 2 of ILFC's -600s. You can verify this at the ILFC website:

Hamlet69: you are right. I only meant that SR will get 11 aircrafts at the moment, no matter if they are leased from Flight-Lease, an SR subusidiary (9), or from ILFC (2): total 11.
