Now, now !! Today we celebrate and feast; let the games begin tomorrow!

I have been lurking in BLR for the last few months and looks like some of the training flights will be DEL-BLR, so hope to get a ride soon!

Guys I checked out the pictures on Boeing's site of AI 787 interiors yestrday, they suck big time. No one in their right mind would choose such a sickening color combination....

Glad this has finally happened. Hopefully the second one isn't far behind!

I can't lie, part of the reason that I am glad this has happened is because I am ready to see some new liveries on the flightline here at CHS.

It looks very similar to the current livery on the 777s which I really like - its upbeat and cheerful - very stylishly Indian!

The 787 looks really good in AI colours I hope with the new liberalised Visa policy between the two countries, AI can return to Pakistan and fly these here as well.

Interior pics http://www.newairplane.com/787/deliv...rline/#/en/ain/787airindiagallery/ looks great to me, dont care much for J class though, its seat design kind of bland looking.

C looks boring, but Y looks the same as the current 777 design, which I find quite bright and airy. The recline in Y looks pretty decent, I have to say.

I see they ve gone 3-3-3 - the equivalent of 3-4-3 on a 777?

Actually I have known of Royal Nepal Airlines (when it still was called that) sacrificing a buffalo and anointing the airplane with its blood whenever a new aircraft came in. Don't know if they still do it.

Well all I'm saying is that as far as AI and most other Indian carriers are concerned, the Hindu tradition of breaking a coconut would be followed......I'm sure someone must have done it for this first 787....I recall seeing a clipping of a coconut being broken for some other AI plane, maybe it was the 777 few years back.....

SYD/MEL is expected by the end of the year. Delays would not be surprising...

The first international route will be DXB, for familiarization international flights. After that, Europe is on the cards until AI is ready to launch SYD/MEL ops.

What a beauty. Congratulations to AI. As they start taking more deliveries, they have one less thing to put the blame on; their fleet. But I sincerely hope AI turns around. I can't imagine JRD's legacy lost to corruption.

I love the colors in the Y class. Very warm just like the Indian hospitality. Why are the floors not carpeted? Is it faux wood that I see? The business class seats though look very cheap.

YYZ takes the honor of being AI's single most unprofitable route, losing over $60 million last fiscal.

All the cancellations for the pilots strike have actually been cash positive, since the revenues on the flight didn't even cover the fuel bill!

AI plans to restart YYZ (they have no choice with GoI watching over carefully), but it probably be one of the last routes to be restarted, if not the last.

AI has been trying to sign a Canadian codeshare agreement with Air Canada in order to improve loads and yields, but it seems the latter doesn't want to cooperate with anyone but its JV partners. Now that this Star Alliance nonsense has finished, AI is actually looking at an agreement with WestJet, which will hopefully work out better.

Lets not forget AI was the first airline to do something with 707's and also the world's first all-jet fleet! Also voted the best TATL airline back in the day.

Like everyone born in India, I have a love-hate relationship with Air India. On the one hand, AI represents the real and messy India of today, whereas IT and 9W aspire to five-star hotel style service. I think AI should be let loose to fly or put out of its misery. But then, this thread is about the Dreamliner.

Have 9W and IT succeeded? IT is about to go bankrupt, while 9W has adopted the "death by 1000 cuts" approach to devaluation. Perhaps carriers should embrace the reality of India and adapt their business plans to such instead of living in the lala land which they do?

6E certainly has understood the ground realities of Indian business and played the game very successfully. There's a reason they are the #1 carrier today...

Quoting comorin (Reply 45):

Neither option is particularly likely in the near future, although both would be superior to the current unsustainable situation...

Perhaps an ever so slightly less radical (=more likely) idea would be to allow AI management to manage the airline instead of leaving the carrier at the whims of the government? That would be a great start

Also at about 0:16s the Business class section has the same look.
