BA "The Firefly" In Olympic/Paralympic Flypast

Tue Sep 11, 2012 2:30 am

"The Firefly", 319 G-EUPC, that carried the Olympic Flame to the UK back in May and then flew it to the Isle of Man, Northern / Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands as part of the British Isles Olympic Torch Relay, participated in the flypast that included the RAF Red Arrows, at the Olympic and Paralympic Parade in London on Monday (10 September).

Again using the appropriate call-sign BAW2012, it overflew the parade of 800 British Olympians and Paralympians and the hundreds of thousands of spedctators across London, down The Mall and then over Buckingham Palace at FL80. As can be seen in the video linked below, the special Olympic "The Firefly" livery was amended by the addition of large black "THANK YOU" titles on the underside of its fuselage for the flypast:

Stunning photos in todays newspapers of the "Firefly" taken from above, flying down the mall. The pictures look as if someones photoshopped a static plane and superimposed it onto a shot of the mall.

Quoting vv701 (Thread starter):
across London, down The Malland then over Buckingham Palace at FL80.

Fairly sure it was 1500 ft working City Radar on 128.025MHz and straight across to Heathrow Tower on 118.7MHz climbing to 3000 ft to join finals for 27R. I was tracking her on planefinder as we got to Westminster Bridge, watching them circle over Southend then run in down the Mall.
