US Airways Repainting Status

Mon Sep 24, 2012 1:21 am

Does anyobdy know which aircraft US Airways has yet to put in their current colors? I know that last time I checked, there were still a handful of a319s in the blue colors as well as some a321s, however I haven;t seen many lately. I know that almost all of the Q300s are still dark blue. And I know about 30% of the E-170s are still blue as well as a handful of regional jets, but what else, if any?

Personally, I love the dark blue colors and, even though it can look faded and patchy on some planes, it is still understated and beautiful! (Not that the current livery isn't!)

Thanks for any info!!!

I always liked the dark blue (although it looks black) us airways scheme, always stood out from the standard white liveries of today.

The Dash-8's are all going to be repainted shortly, its just a matter of when they can come off line to get it taken care of.

That's been the excuse for years. I think the real answer is the flaking blue paint is what's holding some of the -100s together.

No Q300s. They're all straight 311s.

Are any of the E-170s in the new colors yet? From what I'm seeing in the a.net database, all the E-170s are still in the old colors, while the E-175s are in the new colors. Is there a reason for this? Is it up to US Airways or the regional operator?

US got its E-170s in 2004-2005 period IIRC. The new livery arrived sometime in summer 2005. E-175s were delivered in 2006+.

I believe it's up to the regional carrier. That's why we had e first E-170 in UA/CO colors roll out just recently, because Shuttle American didn't see it as a major priority.

Also, I had forgotten that Us Airways had both 170s and 175s. How many sets of registrations are there for each? -MD fir the 170s and HQ for the 175s?

Let's see here I'm probably in the minority here, but I liked the old USAir livery, followed by the old USAirways livery.

Primarily because none of them said Continental on them...

I'm not just saying this to stir the pot, but, wouldn't it make sense if they temporarily suspended repainting of a/c so that they can just spray them all into the new AA livery?

You mean the DHC-8-311s? There are no Q's at Piedmont (the only regional that operates those for US); in fact if you look at the 100's, those are some of the oldest Dashes in existence. Not many many of the 100, 200, & 300s were ever "Q'd."

Most of the 100s, if not all, are white now, and more than half of the 300s as well. I don't work there anymore, but as far back as when I did, they had already begun returning some of the 300s to the lease holder. This is likely the real reason why there's been no hurry to paint them.

Me too. I just don't think it ages as well as the new. I like the new look as well, but the gray-belly is definitely better.

All of the mainline fleet is in the white livery. In fact recently some aircraft have been repainted from the white to the white. Express wise I believe that Air Wisconsin has 1 or 2 CRJs in the blue, Piedmont Dashs that are blue are in the process of being repainted now, 934HA was the one that i know was last in for paint. Republic E70s are also supposed to be all repainted this fall. By the spring there should just be about a handful of Blue aircraft left

All of UsAirways' mainline planes are now white. There are a handful of Dash 8's both 100/300 in blue, not sure how many. Air Wisconsin has three in blue that I believe will be painted white by years end, or early next year at the latest. Not sure if Chautaquas blue ERJ's will get painted white.

The -100's and -300's are being painted currently. Right now we have most of the -300's in blue i think there are only 2 white -300's. 934HA is now in the white scheme and the rest of the blue fleet is on the way to be painted. The -300's leases have been extended 4 years and the only plane that won't be painted is 906 and that is because it cycles out very soon.

They painted a number of the 100s before returning them to the leasing agencies a few years back. US Airways has been conserving money, that's why the painting had been stopped.

It's not entirely up to the regional carrier; if the mainline carrier feels a repaint of the regional fleet is in order and is willing to pay for it, the repaint can be done in relatively short order. That's why all (or virtually all) of the DL Connection fleet has already been repainted.

True but when one of the carrier's hubs and maintenance base includes PHX; dark schemes for that carrier is an automatic no-go. Prior to the HP, merger; the dark scheme on the Boeings didn't have too long of a shelf-life.

Doing some recent spotting over at PHL this past weekend; I never thought I'D see the day that US' old '97 scheme would be a mjor minority.

IMHO, the '89 (post-PI merger) scheme was the best US livery.

That airplane is now in GLH getting the new paint....it is the last of the Air Wisconsin planes to carry the blue paint job. It should come out this week, at which point all 71 Air Wisconsin planes will be in the current USAirways livery.

It could mean the new AA livery will look like the current US livery. There is also a distinct possibility that there will be no US/AA hookup.

It could also mean that US wants to keep their planes looking better than PMUA did for all those years.

Does anyone know when the retrojet's will be given a fresh coat of a paint? If US is trying to save money, could this also mean that the retrojet's will be repainted into the regular US colors?

Maybe they'll just slap AA titles on them.

Three Piedmont -300's are currently painted white: N331EN, N336EN, and N343EN. With the recent announcement that the leases on the -300's have been extended, I would expect them to cycle into the paint shop soon. There are still a handfull of -100's in the blue colors, and they are finally being sent to the paint shop one at a time. N931HA is desperately in need of a new paint job!
Every flight counts.
