Airtran Coming To Pittsburgh?

Wed Oct 18, 2000 12:10 am

I note today that AirTran has published fares from Pittsburgh to Atlanta, Chicago and New York.

However, I don't see these fares anywhere else... and AirTran hasn't announced anything as far as I can tell. Maybe I have a scoop

I remember reading that they have someone who used to work with US Airways. That's why they started up services between PHL-FLL/MCO/TPA.
Another reason why they are entering PIT now is probably b/c it's a good time to get in there during the US/UA merger. If US drops fares, and offers more flights, then FL can claim that they are being anti-competitive, and that could put a dent in the merger case when the DOJ does a complete evaluation of it.
